Equal rights, indeed

Jul 16, 2011 Full story: The Brattleboro Reformer 11

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Our corner of Vermont is unique. The latest proof of this is the fact that Windham County is home to 323 same-sex couples, or 16.74 per every 1,000 people, the biggest ratio in all of the Green Mountain State.

I am realizing that "hippie" is short for hypcrit...
catch that bashing of the bible thumpers?
what kind of TOLERANCE does this writer show for countering points of view?
its a my way or the highway kinda piece isnt it?

Such animus towards others!

Maybe if this writer considered the countering position instead of deeming it IMMORAL and thereby dismissing it out of hand, she would realize that the anger and hate are comming from her...

Family values, aspiring for a mother and father for each child...truly hateful stuff right?

Gays want equal rights, but cant explain how a civil union wouldnt provide that except to say separate is inherently inequal...but they wont discuss how a NAME does that...

they will talk about the constitution, but never really look at what a fundamental right is...or that it is to be FREE from govt intrusion, not a right to a govt sanctioned relationship...

they will call polygamy a red herring even though they cannot distinguish their own right to marry whom they wish...

they call for govt to get out of the marriage business altogether and then claim that gay marriage has no effect on straight marriage...

partners in straight marriages have to address and overcome the very differences between the sexes to be successful, and gays do not...
they are getting the name for half the work...
in short, their relationship is different (not better or worse...different) and different things have different names, but we all have EQUAL rights...)

I know, truly bigoted right?

I am so sick and tired of hearing from our polarized culture wars over gay rights. Don't we have more important things to do than this?

This is a very interesting viewpoint. Although I am not a Bible "thumper", I do manage to read in the Good Book from time to time to get some inspiration. I was just learning how to tolerate and understand Civil Unions when all of a sudden REAL gay marriage was passed. I have adapted by ignoring the whole thing and just treating everyone the same, as much as I can. While I have never had never had trouble liking the gays I have met as individuals, I have to be honest; I have never been able to swallow the concept of gay marriage. People like me don't have freedom of speech anymore for fear of being branded "bigot". You can pass legislation, but you can't reach into the souls of people and convert their consciences. I wish well on every gay person I have ever met, but I stand apart in what I truly believe.

It is all a waste of time and the whole discussion is designed to be a political wedge issue, pit one American against another American for no general reason...

No question about it, Entergy not being perceived as truthful got Shumlin elected. And the courts place a lot of value in the determination of a issue with a governor.

I don't think any gay technical issue could lead to evacuating 100,000 people from their homes...
