Chilton County certainly has it's own justice system. I was even told by a circuit judge that he made the rules in his courtroom and did not need anyone telling him what to do. That same judge who punished people for infidelity, etc. was at the time having an affair. It is common knowledge and is a crying shame that someone of this character sits on a bench. Several lawyers from B'ham have said they have never seen anything like it. The whole system is a joke.

If a person feels that they were treated unfairly by a judge or by a lawyer, you have the right to complain to the Alabama State Bar.Their phone number is in the book. Chilton county is a growing county with growing pains. The legal system has yet to catch up to the growth.I am not making excuses for any one but there are days that the system does not have time to be as polite or as kind as we wish. There are time that the Judge can seem to be short tempered or just down right rude. You have to remember that they have seen and heard just about every excuse for anything some one has done or not done. Judges do not like any one coming into their court trying to "work the system." Now,that being said,I agree that it seems that it is not always fair in our eyes, but, justice will prevail. It is not a perfect system but it is the only system we have.

I agree that is is not a perfect system and with most of what you said. Complaining to the bar is of no avail as I have tried it. I also work in a public service position and am not afforded the luxury of making the rules as I go along. If a judge or lawmaker does not possess the character and fortitude to follow the law precedence, then they should not be in that position of authority. I truly believed in this system until I experienced it firsthand. They are charged with the responsibility of doing what is right and just and not what their demeanor feels like on any given day. To waste people's money and time doing something they(the judge) ordered and then completely ignoring the results of forensic specialists is a gross miscarriage of justice in my opinion. I only hope soon the people of this county will awaken from their apathetic state and search out the details of those in elected positions and demand change and reform by voting them out of office.

Another interesting snit is a lawyer who just make partner with a B'ham law firm who happens to be a Chilton Countian is another prime example of this fine county. He trains cops now, but they failed to mention in his executive bio that he has been fired from every law enforcement dept he worked for due to misconduct mostly for using excessive violence. The Bar licensed him after these incidences. I have come to agree with the sterotype lawyers have. Finding a honest and good one requires a lot of research and tenacity.

While I do not know your brother, and I do not know anything about his legal problems,I do know that there must be some valid reason the DA and the Sheriff are holding him.Two counts of murder and one count of arson is about as serious as it gets.Has he had any kind of hearing where the evidence has been brought forth? The DA and the judge must have felt the proof the sheriff has are enough to prosecute. I don't think you are telling all there is to tell.

I don't know about all of this. In Jemison, a known 2 time felon was looked upon as an upstanding member of the city according to the governing of the city. It was commonly known that he was selling drugs and ripping people off, just read some of the contents about the fine law in this area. People could not get their property when he was arrested because the Jemison police would not allow it. It took Feds to take him down.

I agree wholeheartedly. My attorneys from Birmingham told me the same thing that they have never seen anything like it before and that nothing like what I experienced would ever have happened in Jefferson County. These judges are very territorial and anyone who dares get an out of town judge are just screwed and it is practically an automatic court loss if you do not use a local attorney. First, there are no "good" lawyers locally, only ones who are better "connected" with the court system. It is a disgrace to the entire justice system. I know of one young man who was convicted of rape on little to no evidence and his life ruined by these guys and is now in prison. I am appalled at the justice system this county has and as for you, I pray that justice will prevail. Good Luck

Another satisfied citizen I see. I am sorry for your loss. It is such a shame that things like this happen in this county. It seems as though they target innocent people and those they need to be searching and harassing go untouched. It is all about who you are, who you know and how much money you have in this county and in the cities in this county as well. If you have EVER made a mistake, you better look out because they are going after you from now on. It disgusts me. There is no justice in the justice system in this county. It definitely is a joke.

I wish I could answer that question completely. I am not from Chilton County either. The people at that courthouse are like a click. The judges eat lunch with the attorneys who try cases before them. The judges make up the rules as they go along and God help anyone who tries to bring in an outsider because it is an automatic loss. It is truly surreal if you have not witnessed it. I have contacted the bar to no avail. If you have any suggestions as to how to do anything, I would welcome them. I have campaigned against these judges, but they have been in power for so long that people just don't know the truth and continue to vote for them again. They do not follow the law or precedence, they rule by what they want and who knows them. There is one new lawyer from Chilton county who has been fired from every police force in the county I believe, fired from his sales job for stealing (prior to law school) and had to flee his office in the middle of the night and now he is teaching a class at the police academy. There is no accountability in this place. These type of judges need to be removed from office though along with their support staff. They have become too powerful and do not follow the law. I empathize with you. Good Luck and please keep it posted.
