Water Restrictions Could Get Tighter If Consumption Doesn't Drop - ...

Full story: WTVR

As the water level at Lake Chesdin continues to dip close to where Emergency Water Restrictions will have to be put in place, some who get there drinking water from the lake believe people haven't take the current restrictions serious enough.

These people don't seem to understand that they cannot continue to irrigate day in and day out and have a constant supply of water. This is a critical problem. WTH mandatory restrictions weren't inacted and enforced months ago is beyond me.

The problem is not just irrigation but the short sighted people in charge. The county has continued to grow and is using more water. For the past month they have reduce the usage at Swift Creek and increased usage at Lake Chesdin. The former ARWA Director brought this up every year for his last 5 years and provided viable alternatives. No one listened so once again Chesterfield County is forced to be Reactive instead of Proactive. Raise the level of the Dam, it is the cheapest viable alternative to increase our water supply. 4 of the past 6 years we have been on voluntary water restrictions, ridiculous when we can fix the situation.

Amen on raising the dam... Thats a no brainer.. I run a large lawn care company and this will put me out of business. They should let people water only if they aerate and seed there yard.. This happen 5 years ago and the rain came like it always does..

why do voluntary water restrictions include watering your lawn? i think it is more important to have water for other needs than having a pretty lawn. if people lived on well water they would care less about their lawn...

The supervisors won't be "debriefed" but briefed...

Chesterfield can buy water from Richmond from the James river in the short run as well. didn't know the dam could be raised but that is a good short term solution. I've urged the supervisors to speed up another reservoir like Henrico has made arrangements for but no one thinks very fast in these things it seems. Why not discourage lawns through the use of zoning and codes as well?

The Dam was originally built to serve as a road, so raising it structurally is not problem and is fairly easy, the only other costs associated with that would also be raising the two bridges on the Dinwiddie side. The approximate cost numbers that I have heard are around 3 million dollars. That is a lot of bang for the buck. Since the resevoir is like an Ice Cream cone (more area on top), initial calculations seem to prove that 3 more feet would provide the neccessary water for the county. The Amelia resevoir is a pipe dream with to many politics associated and the reclaimed rock quarry is not until 2018. What do we do now!!!

people need to stop watering there lawns and washing thers cars. id rather have a glass of water to drink tommrow then to waste it on something that can be regrown or get dirty 5 mins after being washed. get it in your heads if this rain next week doesnt give us what we need then by not stoping, now you have made the problem worse. that rain could have gave you an extra glass of water but you washed your car with it. how stupid. is washing your car or watering your lawn worth more than that glass of liquid life?

THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE.
