I know several parents who found out about the lock down by receiving calls from friends. They thought the telephone automatic notification system by the Cheatham County Board of Education was to be used in emergencies. As it was, the parents were finding out about it 2 plus hours after students were told there was 'a man at the school with a gun'. I'm sure there was chaos when it began but a notice that it was 'under control', 'over' or 'pending' and the guidelines for dismissal would have been helpful. the ultimate result was an increased number of vehicles at the school and a traffic mess. Several felt they were 'sitting ducks' when they heard the suspect was possibly in the nearby woods. I hope this event will be reviewed closely for ways to improve notifications and responses. This was an eye opening event that this type of event can happen anywhere at anytime.

Both of my children were at SMS during lockdown. Interestingly enough, the school system felt is was a threat that required the schools to go on lockdown but when the time came to send the kids home - no problem.

Many of these children went home to stay by themselves until a parent could come home - and this supposed threat still existed. Neither me or my wife ever recieved any notification from the principal or the school systems. Instead, we heard about it on the news - after our kids were already home.

I want to know why the Schools let out at 12:45 and while the teachers remained at school for their in-service, the kids were sent home - many of them to an empty house.

I am a 9th grader attending Sycamore high school. It was crazy!!! I think that a Ft. Cambell soldier broke up with a girl friend and he went loopy!!! I was so scared and when we had to go home on buses, sheesh I think the threat was still active then.

I thinks what is more alarming that schools seem to think they have the authority to keep our kids locked down inside school. I guess it is to acclimate them to a fascist new world order police state.
