The Fire Tax is an absurd excuse for responsible planning and implementation of a County Fire Plan and modern Public Safety Services. Cheatham County now taxes property owners in the Pegram Fire District and the Kingston Springs rural section of their district. It is an arbitrary, uncoordinated plan headed by the Cheatham County Emergency Management Director who is not a Fire Professional but it does make sense to have all life-saving/public safety services under one administrator. Each Fire District just runs itself and does little other than fire suppression. Most of Cheatham County is not served with working Fire Hydrants becaust the multiple water districts run themselves. Fire Plan? Fire Tax- another name for revenue abuse and lack of management. Cheatham County used to have the highest wheel tax on cars...none of the moneywent to roads- it was for school shortcomings and general purposes. What Cheatham County needs is a tax on their WHEELS who are supposed to manage public affairs.Absurd!
