Chaves Co. burn estimated 8,000 acres

High winds fanned flames and caused a grass fire to jump established fire lines Thursday, expanding the charred size of the Chaves County blaze to 8,000 acres.

South of Artesia which is south of Roswell.

You read a LOCAL story where most people KNOW where Chavez Co. is and where this fire is.

Before I'd make a comment about something in CA, I'd look it up before popping off.

this fire is actually west of Hope on hwy 82 and Hope is 21 miles west of Artesia, then there is Jct 13 or now called St Rd 24 take that as fire camp is at that junction. And you will see where the fire has been. This should have been caught on Thursday but someone from federal agency decided to try and back burn our burn out as it is called in the high winds and the fire blew out so this is one reason they are still trying to catch this fire. Hope that this helps some know about where the fire is.

Thaat was a little harsh, Chaez Co. covers a huge area and Albuquerque stations never give specifics about what happens in the smaller communities, I am local, I know where Chavez County is, but I would still appreciate a map so I would know how close the fire is to friends and family in that area. I am not going to drive that far to see and risk getting in the way and adding to the problems, as sight seers always do.
