The sleeping father should be held accountable for the child's death. Being that young (2 years old) you just do not leave a child like that alone. May a valuable lesson be learned here. My condolences to the family.

I honestly agree, the father should be held responsible, no matter what the cause. He should have been available to care for his children, AND care for my nieces and nephews. God be with Austin and show him forever love and peace.

Oaky, this is getting out of hand. Let me break this down ... 1st of all NONE of us are PERFECT. As a parent myself, I assume that the father was at home asleep because he had a sick little girl that he too was taking care of ... Where was the MOTHER? No I do not believe the father should be held accountable for this for a couple reasons, first and foremost he is already paying the ultimate price, he has to live the rest of his life with out his own son. 2nd - Tragic accidents happen, UNFORTUNALY. When it's our time to go, we ARE going. 3rd - the neighbors should be held accountable for going out and buying a pool like that and not securing it KNOWING that there were small kids around. And to your comments ..

Chris - Why should the father be held accountable? Why wasn't the mother AVAILABLE to care for her children as well. ESP with a sick baby at home? Where was she? Mom didn't even come home at all Friday night? It's not like he INTENTIONALLY WENT to sleep, he was still sleeping from the night before!

BGoldston - "sleeping" father was sleeping cause that's what you do when you've had a sick baby, a 2 yr old and a 6 yr old with down's. That alone is a hand FULL. As a parent, we don't always HEAR our children wake up. He was probably WORN out. He didn't JUST leave a child that age alone.

Chevy girl - I agree with you, the father has been through enough and will have to live with this the rest of his life ... that alone is payment enough in a situation like this. AND I agree whole heartedly that the neighbor should be held accountable in some degree for having a pool like that with out having it secured.

This is a very sad sad tragic ACCIDENT. When the rest of you can PROVE you walk on water it is then that you can JUDGE someone else!!!!

First of all, it wasnt the neighbors pool, it was our pool. Second of all, I, the mother was at a friend from schools house because I had a presentation due that Monday. That Was the first time that I had EVER left my children overnight and it was not like I was out partying or clubbing or whatever, I was in school trying to make a better life for my children. Third of all, Yes, the father and I have both been through enough. Our doors were locked to where the children(we thought) could not go outside. There has been something wrong with our door the past couple of weeks and it wasnt latching good but it would still lock. My 7 year old somehow got it open. They have NEVER went outside without one or both of us before this. They got up very early that morning before their daddy was awake and they have never gotten up without us waking up. Everything that happened that morning was just out of the ordinary and what hapened to us was an accident and it could have happened to you as well as it could happen to anyone else. Our family is going through a tremendous amount of pain and loss right now and it just seems that everyone that doesnt know what they are even talking about wants to make very hurtful comments and accusations. I think that anyone that has a comment to make about our situation or anyone else that is going through something like this should get their facts straight before they decide to post things that are going to hurt even more. Thank You. God bless (IN LOVING MEMORY OF TIMOTHY "AUSTIN" PARNELL 1/16/06-05/31/08)

Oh, and another thing, the ladder to the pool was all of the way around the side of the house just to keep kids safe because they could not get into it without the ladder, we had no idea that our 7 year old cold even lift it let alone drag it around the house and put it in the pool. It isnt like we just had the pool out there and didnt take the time to take precautions!!

Our little girl wasnt sick and I dont know where everyone is getting their information but over half of what everyone is saying about what happened to us is not even accurate. I have already posted another blog as to where I was at, not that it is really anyones business. What happened to us and loosing our little boy was a horrible accident and it could have happened to anyone. Some of the comments that people have posted on here have really broken our hearts. I just dont understand how when someone is going through what we are going through right now that people can come up with the most horrible and hurtful things to say. The ONLY reason that I am even on here reading these comments is because some of our family was telling us that there are alot of comments about us. We probably shouldnt have even read them because they have just upset us even more really.

Okay I am on here today to take back my allegations on my statements that I have posted before hand. I was going on false statements that I heard from "hear-say" and I shouldn't have even acted on those because for one, most of the time it is 90% incorrect, especially in todays world, and for two its not allowed in court. As far as the parents, they treated their children with up most love and care. Accidents happen to the best of us. And thats all this was, an accident. I apologize for my past statement and I hope the best of the family and friends who are doing all they can in at a time like this.
