The mother of this man is on the television saying the man who shot the unstable intruder didn't have to shoot him. If someone was at her back door, breaking into her home and threatening to kill, what would she do? Would she ask the mental history of the intruder? Or would she feel threatened and attempt to protect herself?
The mother states she was afraid of her son, and knowing of his mental condition, allowed him to leave the home, apparently in a rage.
A responsible individual might would have called the authorities, at the very least followed the mentally unstable person until someone can take control of the situation. Now we have a mentally unstable person rampaging and terrorizing the neighborhood, and the mother is blaming the police officer for protecting himself. Who in this situation is really responsible? Why is the mother blaming the wrong person, perhaps the mother should take some responsibility.
If there was someone at my back door, threatening me and attempting to break into my home, I would attempt to protect my home as well, I would not stop to check the mental condition of the intruder.
The man suffering from Schizophrenia should have been in the care of individuals that can control the situation, and see that the individual is taking the proper medications. This incident could have been prevented; unfortunately we have irresponsible people in the world whom are not capable of taking responsibility.

What would you have done? I would imagine any law enforcement officer would tell you to call 911 and stay inside your home. No, instead this officer decided it bright to confront him and mow him down.

We live in a very high-strung society, and I feel so even more now that we cannot trust LEOs to abide by the laws of what would be considered a rational reaction to a threat from a highly troubled fellow human being.
