How do you know that. Drug use in the Amish community is high. Remember a big case about 3 years ago with two Amish guys name Stoltzfuss, near Reading who were dealers. Great cover. Who would suspect Amish of dealing drugs.

The Amish and similar get another break in the law that is not extended to any other religions.
They don't have to have their pictures on licenses and picture ID (even in PA, how do you call it a picture ID, when it doesn't have a picture?)
I have read and seen cases of Muslims who had to remove head coverings etc, but the Amish ID have a sky blue block with the words "PICTURE LEGALLY OMITTED"
In a world of security issues, how does this protect anyone.

When the Amish start setting off suicide buggies, I'll worry about it.

horse and buggy wrote: why shouldn't the amish be subject to the same rules everybody else is. like paying taxes to bring their horse and buggy on roads that i help pay to maintain. also, if my dog goes on the lawn and i don't pick it up, i get fined, but their horses can crap on the roads without them picking it up and that's ok? A dog frequently poos on private property rather than the roadway which is why you have to bag your poo from fido. Horses poo on the road and the horse might get a ticket for littering but few horses have money with which to pay a fine. A good solution would be for you to get a garbage can and a broom and sweep up your streets of horse droppings and take them home. Big city people pay a lot to buy horse poo for their gardens and there you are, making as if horse poo grows on trees! Bag the poo and weigh it and maybe you could sell it on eBay and make a million. Your garbage could sell as compost....

The law is for everyone wrote: Everyone is required to follow the law--PERIOD. Laws regulating matters such as these are designed to maintain cleanliness, aesthetic standards, and order in our communities and in building. Everyone has to follow the law--no one group can just ignore the laws meant to protect ALL of our property interests. Take the outhouses DOWN unless permits are obtained--there is nothing about obtaining permits that violates the Amish culture/religion. That's an excuse. <quoted text> Do you, by any chance, sell permits there in Miami? Are there no code violations found in Liberty City or Little Havana or are politicians afraid of violence should they try to clean up these areas? Explain to those in Miami's Liberty City about law and they'll be stepping over your dead body within two minutes flat. I spent 8 miserable years in SoFl before escaping and know the tri-county area well. How could anyone live down there and be so anal-retentive?

Good grief. Leave the Amish be, already.
I think we have much more important things to worry about like the thugs and criminals who are totally ruining society.

Better his 'business' in the streets than that of the the drug peddlers. My 'street' is a dirt road in the country....the back of beyond...and I like that. I don't have a horse anymore....got too old for that...but I do have a huge dog and he probably has less money than your dog. He does have an ample stock of dog cookies he'd share with your dog, though.
