the Callaway county E,O,C. needs to look into upgrading there radio system! I hope that none of the people that depend on the sheriffs office or fire dept have scanner's they would be horrified to listen to there comm's it's pitiful to listen to them always asking the officer's to repeater there self's all they need to do is replace the old system with an APCO-25 system and go digital

yes it is expensive but if they save one life its worth every penny

If you are snooping with a scanner, you might listen in on the Ambulance traffic...if you can get any reception. Since they went with "your" apco-25 digital narrow band radios, the quality of radio traffic has gone from pretty decent to risky and dangerous. reception and transmit range dropped drastically and interference is rampant. Digital narrow band is NOT the way to go for improved comm in Callaway County.

Well Radioman Since you are listening from such a great distance from there repeater! i can see how you would have trouble hearing there communications? And the type and height of your receivers antenna has a lot to do with that.
And the type of receiver your using!

My SUGGESTION TO YOU WOULD BE!

Purchase a high end scanner for example,

(GRE) PSR-600 PRICE 398.00 + TAX AND ANY PROGRAMING YOU WANT DONE.

OR,

(UNIDEN BEARCAT) BCD996XT + TAX AND ANY PROGRAMING.

You can purchase the above listed SCANNERS
@ www.scanmaster.com for the prices listed

Evidently you are using inferior equipment
that would allow you to monitor (NAC) coding and decoding?

And also you may need to have an outdoor antenna!
Because of your distance from the closest tower from Moberly, Mo. 48 air miles. INFO @ www.airnav.com
Just remember that for ever (ten) 10 ft in antenna height you get (six)6 to (ten)10 miles of receive range, so i would say your antenna sould be (sixty)60 to (sixty five) 65 ft. in height!

Hope this HELPS you?
