That place is a cesspool of thugs, hookers, druggies, alcoholics, deadbeats, bums, dimwits, and their unfortunate children. We may think we are doing something very noble by providing them food and shelter but all that amounts to is delaying the inevitable. Which is that the vast majority of these people and more than likely their children will continue to require some type of support and government assistance the rest of their lives. Call it a " Ministry" if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy but that is a joke.

That being said, it is amazing that more tragedies don't occur.....

Jim, I agree to a point but versus "feeding" the problem, the "ministry" needs to inform these people of unfortunate circumstances, that there is a great big world out there and marine corps style, teach them to better themselves and actually do them a favor. It plainly states in the bible " give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach the man to fish, he eats everyday! And my personal favorite for all the pill billies out there..... " if a man don't work, a man don't eat! " Jesus said that if a man didn't work and provide for his family he would be looked upon as a dog. You can choose to believe this or not. To each their own, but "Just in case" their is some truth to this, I wouldn't want to be looked at by my creator and spat upon as a common dog! It's easy to work every day people. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

I dunno bout yall but if you can't provide a home for your kids and your staying in a shelter you shouldn't even have the kids! Maybe I'm just sounding like a mega c*nt and I'm not trying to but doesnt cps come and take kids for some dumb shit but they don't take babies and children away from homeless people living in shelters? That's just my opinion not that it even matters...

Things happen....if you were 6 months pregnant, and then something happened...house burnt down, or lost job, no family to help...or whatever...would you give up your child, or spend a few months in a shelter, while trying to get your live straight?
This mom doesn't need judging right now. Until YOU have to pick out the tiny coffin your child will be buried in, don't sit & down this mom when she's already going thru Hell.

Don't delude yourself into thinking that the inhabitants of the Mission "Ministry" are people that were doing just fine but then just happened to have one unfortunate incident...ie: "house burning down" and then spent 7 months at the Mission... How naive can you be?

Read my previous comment about what 98% of them are..... I know because I worked in the system for years!

It is very sad that a baby has died but the big picture cannot be lost here....

Oh and yes she has to pick out a coffin but you and I will be paying for it!

i know the woman who lost her child! She is an amazing person and was at that hospital everyday until she could take her baby home. as someone who had no choice but to stay at the mission/project hope, not all of are thugs etc... i was doing what was best for my children... i did all i could and now we have our own place. we had to stay there for 5 months. Times are tough right now and not everyone is handed a silver spoon. I do not agree with the majority of what they do at the mission but am thankful for the roof they put over my childrens' heads! Please, do not cast judgement as you would not want someone to judge you!

If this is the case that i'm thinking of... the mother to this baby was going to the methadone clinic and as I said, IF IF IF this is the person I am thinking of, I seen her like 3 or 4 days exactly after this happened and shes was ALL smiles and giggles as she stood in line to get her dose of methadone. From my understanding, this poor baby "accidently" smothered under a comforter; however, that same night, the mother was begging other ppl in the mission to watch the baby so she could go find her "something" to help her sleep but no one would watch the baby. Guess what!! The "mommy" ended sleeping very well that night... and every night after that. Sorry, it is a sad situation and I hate that this beautiful angel had to lose his/her life, the "mother" should have some way been punished... actually, never heard anything... Did she get in trouble?

Was the baby in the nicu bc of the mothers drug use? If you have a medical card and use drugs while pregnant, the state should take away your child and sue you for the cost... And press charges for being a neglectful mother. If this mother did drugs while pregnant, she should spend day and night at the hospital... And have to wear a sign that tells everyone what she did.
