RECYCLING: Take it to the curb

There are 1 comment on the story from Dec 17, 2007, titled RECYCLING: Take it to the curb. In it, reports that:

“Every resident and business is strongly encouraged to recycle to help protect our natural resources and to ensure the wonderful quality of life we have here in Cabarrus County.”

Blue recycling bins began arriving this week at about 15,000 households in the parts of Cabarrus County that aren't in cities or towns.

Allied Waste Services will provide curbside recycling to those areas at $4.96 per month per household. Pickups will begin Jan. 2.

But will curbside service be enough to get residents to recycle?

It depends on whom you ask. For some, it's about the future.

'The landfills are going to fill up if we don't do our part,' said Staci Pierce, who lives in the Moorecrest subdivision off Poplar Tent Road. Read more

$ 4.96 is a little much if you ask me and then of all things they are charging a fuel expense also.
Going to take more than recycling to cut down on land fills. They need to make the recycling epense cheaper and worth their while. A lot of people weren't even givne the option to recycle,
the bins were just dropped at their residences.
In general people don't recycle as it is a hinderance and time consuming. Don't run people
away from the problem. Let's fix it!!!! People won't Protect the environment, they'll protect the green they so called have in their pockets first. Then you have these wonderful "Mercury Light bulbs", which have just came out of the closet. Who knew they had a danger warning.....
Whose going to pay for that recycle. Some one will pay.
