I am seeing people talk about making 413 a week well thats more than me and my husband make in a week but we still manange to pay our bills even with a 750 rent 150 electric and pay for food i am not knocking food stamps because i have been on them then i realized if i cut out all the things that where not essential such as cable and phone and internet (because i use it at work) and all the things that i dont need i have 2 children also a 2 year old and a 1 year old and if you think you need to be on food stamps because you want to have all the good things in life then yes you are wrong you shouldnt be depending on the government to pay for things like that if you can pay those bills then you can afford to not be on food stamps just cut all the crud out of you life

as far as disability it could take you 10 years to get it so keep wishing my friends step dad has been trying to get it for 6 years now so you should be trying to find a job to support your family while he can't

i actually just got off the phone for my interview and since i am a student enrolled full time in school, i dont qualify because i need to work 20 hours or over i am full time with 6 classes trying to graduate before the baby is here and feel i am stressed out enough being almost 5 months pregnant, if i was working more than 20 hrs a week why on earth would i even be applying that made absolutly no sence to me, yet i tried to explain to the woman that i am a banquet server which means i do weddings and meetings its winter right now no one is getting married therefore i rarely work yet still do, and as a waitress if i was working as a banquet server at the mpst 20 hrs a week i could be making as much as a full time worker w about 13 hrs a week i make as much as a part time but after bills and now trying to get my own place im screwed the woman hung up on my how un-professional i wish she mentioned her name because i would most definitly make a complant i have never felt more disrespected in my life, i said im sorry i really dont understand she said to me well maybe you'll understand more clearly when you recieve the denial letter in the mail, have a nice day and hung up...wow is all i have to say, the people who need it the most get denied. basically if you dont have a job you and your child go hungry yet if you are working 20 hrs a week you recieve all the atate aid you can get

I to went to the food stamp office and was told that we made 100 bucks to much... We have three kids and work our butts off. I was layed off in Novemeber and still can't find work... How is it that people who don't work, sell drugs, and don't shower can eat steak every night on food stamps and I can't even get a bit of help to get by!!!!!!!! I thought that my taxes went to pay for that... But I guess it only pays for others, not my family when we are in need of help!

I was denied food stamps, everything. Why, because the blacks and spanish are in control.
I work part time and cannot afford to pay my utilities so I enrolled for food stamps. They said I earn to much money. I am a senior citizen on social security and that pays my rent.
We can thank Oprah's money for supporting Obama and being a radical colored woman.
I hope she loses all the money she has no looks or talent.

You sound like such an idiot! For your information it wasn't just Oprah who supported Obama, it was almost the entire United States. Also, Obama has increased the funding for food stamps for individuals. I happen to think thats a good thing. Maybe instead of blaming others for your financial insecurites you should have thought more about it when you wern't so senior. You're lucky you have social security. You're racist old woman. You should have had a better retirement plan. You are a waste of any government money.

I was denied food stamps because I am a full-time college student. I have no income and I am using financial aid to help pay my way through college. They told me I at least have to work 1 hour a week in order to get food stamps. As of right now, with my homework load there is no way I can work. What really makes me upset about it, is that my friend doesn't go to school, she doesn't have a child, she just sits on her but all day, and she gets food stamps! How messed up is that.

Each state have policies that determine food stamp eligibility. I know in the particular state I live in, if you are a full-time college student you are ineligible for food stamps. In order to be an eligible student, you have to be working 20 hours or more per week or doing work study. Also if you are a single parent with a child less than 12 years old, then you might be an eligible college student. I know first hand because I used to be a caseworker. I know it's not fair to a lot of you who are less fortunate, but if you really think about it, each and everyone of us is responsible for our own financial outcomes. If you really want to be self-sufficient, you're going to strive to do all you can to have a financially secure future. The government is not intended to hold our hand through life. We have the freedom to be all that we can be. Hang in there and persevere.

Maybe you should have planned more accordingly for your retirement. Plus your comments on race are totally ignorant. Ever heard of karma?

Why is it that the working class Americans have trouble getting food stamps when times are rough, yet those who work under the table and lie about their work status get $800 PER MONTH in food stamps. This is the case in 7 different inner city families that I know. Where is the justice. America is teaching us to lie and cheat the government in order to get money. Those of us who are moral get NOTHING.

My mother who is a senior was on food stamps for the past 6 months. When she reapplied she was denied, why? Because she doesn't have enough income to make her mortgage payment. That's right, she was denied the assistance of food stamps because she can't afford her housing payment anymore. Now she can't afford housing or food. This system is ridiculous! Something needs to be done.

Wow! reading these comments almost made me cry. My heart goes out to the many families in need and I wish you all nothing but the best. Yes! the system is screwed up in many ways inwhich we can not count but I believe in time things will get better...not because of Obama etc. but keep your heads up and hold on your faith. The lord will give you only so much that you can bare. Mostly my heart goes out to the narrow minded ignorant by choice people up here that wrote those cruel post, yes! you know who you are. Have you stopped to think that just maybe, just maybe you'll having a bad time because of your evil ways? I am a black women rasing 4 children as a single parent, I've been working since the age of 14 and me too was denied foodstamps for making to much money. I didn't cry although I was hurt and my children might go hungry that night or thereafter but I went on. I struggled and I'm still struggling because somehow I manage. Finally I relocated to NC a few days ago and I went to apply for benefits because I relocated and quitted my job I was denied foodstamps for myself but by the grace of the lord they gave my children benefits. All that I do is for them and if I have to strave black, white or hispanic so be it. I didn't get made I just walked away in hopes in teaching my children not to depend on goverment aid and plan their future for the best all on their own.

i think everyone is missing the big picture...i think instead of trying to figure out how to get food stamps and work the system to survive, we should nip the problem in the bud. the goverment is responsible for over taxing and under paying all of us in the working class. my husband last year made 90,000 dollars before taxes....he paid in 38,000. if we could keep the money that the goverment takes away, we wouldn't have to jump through these hoops to get it back! Just so you know he just lost his job but we have to wait to prove no income before we can get food assistance. the harder you work the more they take. if they would just leave every body alone we'd all be alot better off, proud to work because we would keep what we earned. VOTE FAIR TAX ...go to tea parties...learn how you can make it easier on your self for the rest of your life..not just month to month! GOD BLESS and good luck to all of us! republican, democrate, black, yellow, red, white and blue!
