Hopefully they will make a fatal error in their victim selection process and be laid out on a slab for their efforts. Some old people have shotguns you know.

In our area (Augusta County), this happened last week, and one of the residents was able to get a license plate number and called the police. We followed up the other day and the police said they let them go and believed their stupid story about how they were doing a class assignment for JMU. Now that's what I call protection?!

Is it going to make all of you feel incredibly stupid when you find out that all of this is being done by a legitimate company, and someone has been falsely accused?

A legitimate company endorses forcing their way into homes? Have you forgotten they stabbed a woman a couple of days ago? Is the stabbing employee just going a bit too far? Or is the stabber a copy-cat pushy salesperson trying to ruin the reputation of the legitimate company?

I just would like to say to everyone that We Feel deeply terrible about what happened to the Lady in buckingham county. I have no idea who could have done such a horrible thing. We are the Kirby company of charlottesville virginia. Our company does not allow us to do advertising over the television or radio so the only way that we advertise is buy going door-to-door. We do give gifts to the people for letting us come in and shampoo a room of carpet for them. We show them the kirby cleaning system and we clean there carpet for helping us our with our advertising. The kirbys are for sale but there is certainly no obligation for the people to buy them. We are very concerned about people getting us confused with scammers, thief's, robbers and even attackers. We are just trying to make a living and these attacks that these FAKE SALES PEOPLE are doing to our community is hurting us to. Its is very tough for us with all this trash talk going on. I understand everyones concerns but our people tell everyone that they talk to that they are with Kirby and they are NOT pushy or they would be FIRED. All of the people that work for my business have permits and my vehicals are properly registered with the police. All that I am asking is to always be causious but give us a fair chance to make a living too it is our constitutional right.. WE ARE A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS>KIRBY COMPANY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE.

There are other kirby offices in Lynchburg and in harrisonburg and Richmond. They do work in our territory and there is nothing that we can do about that but we are here to stay in charlottesville and we would never allow anything to jepordize our business. Thanks for reading...

Our people get paid to clean carpets reguardless if a customer decides to purchase our equipment. donald you will certainly get the respect you deserve but in return you probably should think about giving a little respect back. Your comment totally understood though. We definatly dont want to get shot by you...

I'm not sure if I was the one but I did follow them and got a license plate number and passed it on to an Augusta County deputy. Later on that night I heard two more calls on the scanner for the same thing and the deputy I spoke to passed the plate number on. The number was 707 U2W. The plates on the vehicle were covered with a dark film so you could not read them unless you got right up behind them, which I did. My neighbor who is in her 80's let one of them in so I called her and talked to her about what was going on. The young boy must have figured out something was going wrong because he didn't take long to leave. I made sure she was OK after I saw him leave. That's the last I've heard of it until I read in the paper about the stabbing. So if you know they are in your neighborhood, be sure to watch after your neighbors and notify the authorities if you truly feel these folks are not legitimate. I suggest calling the business number for your county/town police. I had to use 911 because I couldn't find the business number in the new stupid phone book!! I apoligized for calling on the emergency number. I'm the first to say 911 is for emergencies and emergencies only !!!!!

Roger, it may have been you that I'm referring to as the one who got the plate numbers (white SUV). My friend initials A.T. said her father (you?) went to help his mother who was targeted by these people. A.T. relied to me that nothing was done, and they were let go. I am lucky, my neighbor is a police officer (in another county) and parks his cruiser on the line of our property. Makes people think twice before knocking. Thanks for getting the plate numbers!

I have seen the same type of "gypsy scam" in the midwest. Once these people are inside your house you don't have a chance. Only talk to people through a locked door---never open it. These people target the old and frail and are good at it. Many times they will innocently leave and then tell their pals what they saw inside your house and you get visitors through your windows a few weeks later.

I was 6 months pregnant, at home alone, when the scammers first came to my house.(They have also came a second time) I knew immediately something was wrong. I called the Greene County police who completely blew me off. They didn't show up until over 30 minutes later, and took no interest in my complaint once they arrived. I showed the officer the other houses that the scammers visited but he never interviewed them. I even told him which way the scammers exited my neighborhood but he went the opposite direction when he left. Its really disappointing that it takes someone getting stabbed for us to notice all the red flags!

A legitimate company would have salespeople with name tags! A legitimate company doesnn't have salespeople come late, after dark to people's homes!
