My comment will strike some as petty, but I changed my vote from David to Pope when I saw David had an ad in the sky! Now really, Do we need a DA who could easily have caused an accident by distracting drivers with his sign in tow behind an airplane? To me this shows lack of foresight.

Last week there were reports of dozens of canvassers spread throughout Columbus County, passing out John David fliers and bashing Butch Pope. Very few windshields, newspaper boxes and doorsteps appeared left untouched. During the aftermath airplanes stormed the skies of Columbus County while protestors or town criers for change blamed everything from the News Reporter's failure to run the "ad" to Mitchell Tyler and his political machine. Locals will be the first to tell you The News Reporter has never been one-sided and is always promoting an equal and non-biased platform for everyone that seeks public office. Yes Butch Pope was the best choice and that is a fact. Butch Pope is local, not supported by big money, and not from the wealthy class, unlike David. But let us look at some other clear facts, true facts, and nothing but the facts. Mitchell Tyler and the now decades-old aging machine has ruined our once prosperous area. Is John David and his big-money affluent backers any different? The four thousand vote difference in between David and Butch Pope most likely were affected by another Mitchell Tyler. Tyler has for years, through "community organizers," hired workers to storm the local poles like vultures swooping down on prey. Sadly poor minorities are used when in all reality these same minorities should be running for, endorsing and yes even voting for one of their own candidates. Put Tyler to passing out fliers for minority candidates; now there is a thought. The lack of minority candidates being elected to office in the region speaks volumes about change the good old boys and "healing." Big money the likes of the disgusting Tyler has now come down from Raleigh and Wilmington and ran a Raleigh Wilmington campaign. How dare Mark Cartrette and big insurance decide what we need in Columbus County. Cartrette is better suited for and should stay in Raleigh where he and his "non profit" goons have become a fixture in the halls of the General Assembly. Bill Rabon would have gotten elected without the likes of such and there is little doubt that Rabon didn't need the likes of Cartrette to win. But John David did and would not have gotten elected without one of Columbus County's own turning on it. Lets look more into this other Mitchell Tyler and perhaps new machine that is now forming. Cartrette also represents the thuggery he placed on Pope. Scores of criminals are turned into the streets by his profession. While Pope represents indigents pro bono, Cartrette and his group introduce bills and effect laws that line their pockets, all at the taxpayer's expense. Strangely while against David,Tyler's machine courted Rabon. It also promoted Judge Bill Fairley by passing out recommendations at each of the polls. Tyler and his machine went so far as to fund republican candidates dinners. Hum, something stinks here and it aint the Columbus County hog farms brother. I do not know about the rest of you, but I do not think that our area isn't going to get much different representation than the likes of the corrupt Rex Gore RC Soles team. For now I will tell my kids and neighbors that we should be positive and keep an open mind, giving our new elected officials a chance. But I will tell you here that I am scared as hell. I cannot help but wonder, did the democratic process really work?
I say Vote Harold Butch Pope for District Attorney in 2014.
Send Wilmington's own back to Wilmington or where ever he is from.

You are right about Rabon and wrong on Jon David.
Jon David isn't backed by "big money". Butch spent a heck of a lot more than Jon did. Butch is the one who was backed by every single criminal defense attorney in Columbus County. Yet again, we would have had a DA bought and paid for by the criminal defense industry. He would have catered to the revolving door system that has plagued our county for so long. Jon David is going to be the best thing to ever happen to Bladen and Columbus counties.
Bill Rabon being on Mitchell Tyler's "freedom ballot" which was passed out by paid workers is very concerning. Rabon and Tyler have been attached at the hip for the past couple of months. Why did Bill sell out to the Democratic machine? Is he a RINO? Is he RC's personal pick? Did RC encourage him to run? Did Bill not know he could have lost every vote in Columbus County and still would have won the election? This should be VERY concerning.

i want to add to the mitchell tyler machine and bill rabon comment by columbus corruption.... mitchell tyler has now reached the level where he thinks he IS the machine without rc soles and the rest of them. rc sole supported redwin, not rabon. unlike mithcell tyler he supported a democrat candidate. the machine and mitchell tyler are no more....its just mitchell tyler making a mess all by himself

Close but no cigar. The Feds that are asking questions think the machine is alive and well or regrouping through the lifelong poker family aka David and Bill. Tyler is a thug; the Gores and the bankers, Etheridge and Sasser and a few others are no less important. Doc Bill is about to do Tyler's bidding, keep your eyes open. DYK that Tyler was put in place at a cost of $70,000 to run errands and raise funds? Check his phone records and you will see what he has been doing on the clock. Oh by the way, Tyler is running around saying that he has Gov. Perdue in his pocket. I agree that he must have lost it. Do some research on the case Rex Gore is hiding for Cuz Worley's family. Also do you know anything about a gun the Sheriff took as a bribe? Mike Warner and a few others do. A lot is about to happen and soon.
