Are we failing the children

As I set in a Brunswick County Courtroom yesterday I listened to a young teenage boy recount what happened between him and his father one night. I have known this family for several years and I have seen this mother fight for the safety of her son and the stop of mental abuse by the father. From ER visits that the doctor ruled as "differences in disapline" even with the child telling what happened to him and visible bruses, to CPS ruling "no issues" again after the child telling what mental and physical abuse and yes neglect when the children were small. Yesterday as I sat there I listened to the judge compair this child to a criminal over and over thats resisting arrest from a Cop. As the DA tries to explain to the judge that the child wasnt a criminal and at the time the boys father was jerking him around the child was complying and he wasnt a criminal. To my surprise this judge kept on and on about if she thought his cops were wrong when they had to do this with people, and then he told that in the state of NC that a parent has all rights to grab a child and drag them where the parent wanted for no reason. Readers I was in total shock. My heart goes out to this teenage boy and his mother. As I sat at my dinner table with my family last night thanking god for my children are blessed, It hit me, this father use to be a cop in Brunswick County and the last I spoke to him he was recently appling for another job there as a cop. HAVE WE FAILED THE CHILDREN, are we missing the cries of help? They turn to drugs and suicide,We have got to pay attention and help them before we destroy our youth. I watched this father walk out the courtroom all smiles like he got away with another one, while seconds before a teenage boy (HIS SON) walked down that isle broken and failed by our system yet once again. To that teenage boy and mother, God will never put on us more than we can bare. God bless you both and keep fighting. DO NOT follow in your fathers footsteps but learn from them. Please lets get together if not but here and stand behind this young man. Show him there are people that suport him and his mother.

let me please add, granted the judge in this case was not aware of this fathers past with his son or aware of all the abuse before this, and for some reason it either couldnt or wouldnt be brung up But readers there are others out there that did know, has known. But just the way this young boy was treated and has been treated . Readers you would be shocked to know the full story that consists, Ive known them 6 years and its was going on before then.
