Why are the property owners of oakisland charged a fire fee on homes and vacant lots? The property taxes in Brunswick/Oakisland are higher than Charlotte/Mecklenburg. Fire apparatus in Charlotte are staffed at 4 firefighters per truck, perform EMS, swift water rescue, trench rescue, high angle rescue, USAR, hazmat and many other technical tasks. Charlotte had an incident response total well over 100,000 for the year for 39 stations. All this is funded through property taxes. Oakisland is double taxing residents and not providing the level of protection and professional services for the money.
