I for one was surprised to read this - I've had nothing but good experiences dealing with SunPass for over three years. I check my balance online every month and it's always been right. You must be an employee for sunpass,or they must be paying you to write a BS comment. Everyone I know that has Sunpass has the same issues.

No. Sunpass is in cahoots with every county in Florida. If you buy one and you get a new license plate for your vehicle, they bill you for the tolls even though you still own the same vehicle and have money in your sunpass account. This is 4/29/2013 folks and I bought my sunpass in 2009 and still have $35. left on it after my $50. stipence and the $25.00 vig for the no battery required thingamajig. They are pumping it up your wazzoo's and I resent the feeling that I am being terrorized by my own people and the state I have lived in for 63 years.

I have had a sunpass account for many years. I recently bought a replacement for my old transponder for $20-odd dollars, affixed it to my windshield underneath the rearview mirror, and drove to the beach. I got a nice note from the toll enforcement authority shortly afterwards explaining that my tolls hadn't been paid. I paid them and called Sunpass. After some discussion, the person I spoke to agreed that there was a problem with the transponder. After asking me some warranty questions, she said if I mailed it to them and paid all postage myself, they'd consider fixing it for me within a couple of weeks. I told them I considered this their problem and wanted them to send me a replacement as soon as possible, whereupon I'd send back the defective transponder. She made it clear that she considered this my problem. I thanked her for her help and called E-pass who graciously agreed to sign me up and send me three new transponders for free. I really wanted to support a local business for my toll needs, but these guys seriously need to work on their customer service if they want to stay in business.

We purchased the Sunpass mini from cvs in Volusia co with plan of making trips to Orlando airport faster & less stressful to pick up our sons when they visit on leave from the Navy & Marines. Affixed sticker as directed on website, activated acct & deposited funds. Good to go right ? WRONG ! Used to worthless.waste of money one trip (a total of 8 tolls) recd notice from the Orlando expressway authority of "toll violation" . Call to Sunpass directed to EPASS - EPASS blamed Sunpass - back & forth - hopefully follow up back to EPASS & maybe there customer service will resolve this ad Sunpass has completely lost me as a user ... Why is no one looking into these agencies practices ...

The Florida Toll-By-Plate system that the state has implemented is a total scam. After a recent trip to Key West from Georgia, we received an invoice from TBP for a number of charges when we apparently passed through the mystery Sunpass toll. Every time I came to a toll plaza I made sure that I went thorough the change lane and paid in cash just so I wouldn't have to deal with getting charged later by TBP. Well apparently they have hidden cameras and don't tell you that you are going through a toll and then send you an invoice. I was surprised at the number of "tolls" that I didn't even know I went through and that's in addition to the ones I paid in cash. About a month after I paid for the invoice I get another invoice for one toll that I apparently went through on the trip. It was for $1.28 with another $2.50 added for "Current Fees / Charges". This is on top of the $2.50 I paid in "fees" on the first invoice. I don't know how many more invoices I will receive for the trip but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more to come. This is the government that holds all of the cards and can keep charging you without giving the consumer a chance to validate the charges and will take legal action (suspend your license, etc.) if you don't pay. There is no way that I can dispute these "tolls" because I have no idea when or where the charges were incurred. This is a government that is out of control.

Sunpass started off as a good idea. It provided an alternative to having to carry around change to pay tolls. Then the option to pay with cash was removed, forcing toll road users to either get a Sunpass or to pay (1) higher toll rates and (2) a $2.50 monthly administrative fee.(Set aside the fact that when the Florida Turnpike was initially funded, it was to collect tolls only long enough to pay back the funds used to build it and then become a free road.) The transponders themselves have gone from good to bad. The original transponders would beep when you went through the toll and the transponders would also display the remaining balance on the prepaid card. Then some years later they "upgraded" to transponder models that still beeped but no longer displayed the current balance. Now Sunpass is forcing another "upgrade" to transponders which will not even alert you that your toll was deducted, nor will it give you a low balance warning like previous transponders did. The two additional changes (which Sunpass states are positives) are that the transponders will not require batteries, and the transponder will work in some other states. Whip-dee-do! Replacing the batteries only needed to be done every few years and was simpler than changing a watch battery. I would much rather know my balance, or at least have a clue that I was below $10 balance, than have to go online to check my balance. It is kind of nice to know immediately. Having a transponder that works out of state only benefits those who drive out of state, and it is cheaper to rent a car at your final destination than to actually drive hundreds/thousands of miles. All of these changes were done without input from transponder owners and customers. From reading messages boards around the state of Florida, nearly all comments regarding Sunpass are quite negative, which makes me wonder how they can claim to be recipients of the JD Power & Assoc. Customer Service award. Yeah right! Sunpass, Florida Dept of Transportation and Faneuil, Inc. which is the company that runs the program all get big thumbs down from me. I encourage all readers to avoid any toll roads possible, and definitely no new tax money for the State until they can at least pretend to address the consumer needs.

Sunpass and toll by plate sucks. It's just a money scheme. Give the roads and bridges back to the counties and the state.

This turnpike has actually been paid for, possibly twice......for a tourism state to institute something like this as mandatory, is very shortsighted.....

Sunpass is a horrible toll processing service. How is it that a company can make it mandatory to place your card on file and then before the funds are depleted withdraw directly from your bank account directly? I have been over drafted at my bank every month for the past year because, although I had money in the account, they decided to draw from my account a ridiculous sum (30) even though I had money on the account. When I decided to call them, they informed me that unless I had the card on file with automatic payments i would not be allowed to use the service. I wouldn't mind switching service so much (seeing as how this company is practically a thief), but of course this company is the only game in town. So in retrospect, this company is a monopoly, a bank fraud generator, and a inconvenient service. It is my decision to discontinue my sunpass service and deal with the consequences of no being forced into a horrible inept payment system.

I had my photo taken on a toll road, and received an invoice, which I paid in full. Toll-By-Plate says they never received payment. I sent copies of the cancelled checks to prove I had indeed paid them, and now they have turned my invoice over to a collection agency. They are about to get notice from my attorney.

I am from Canada and took a wrong turn and arrived on a sunpass autoroute. The toll was 50 cents which I deposited into the bin. The light stayed red and never turned to green after depositing the 50 cents. I now have to buy a transponder for 5 dollars and deposit with sunpass another 10 dollars so that my rental agency will not charge my credit card after returni ng to Canada. I understand that the penalty could be over 75 US dollars. If I buy the transponder I have an 80 percent chance that I will not have to pay. This is crazy and Florida should check into this because it is bad publicity for people going to Florida.

I got back from Florida three weeks and noticed i received an invoice. 1st invoice was for $15.53, Admin fee $15.00, toll both 0.53 cents. Second invoice $16.29, admin fee $15.00. toll $1.29. I traveled from Orlando - Tampa and back. Both times i paid cash for toll, but the person i spoke with from Fox rental and Dollar said there are cameras all over the place you will not notice. I asked how you are suppose to know you're on toll lane and she said, it's doesn't like any different.

We stopped going to the east side of Florida. Last time, we paid every few miles a toll with cash and considerable time involved.
Talked with a Waitress who had to pay over 10.00 in tolls each way to and from work, where she earned about 60.00 a day. Forty dollars a day before taxes, in Florida won't even pay rent and food and gas.
I understand you Folks now have to have transponders.
We we have no such concept as toll roads to pay foreign investors and money or developers etc.
So we won't pay or a transponder for one trip or two to Florida.
Will they send us a bill and another bill or not paying the toll?
