There are 482 comments on the browardnewsnetwork.blogspot.com story from Jan 27, 2013, titled Corruption At Manatee Bay Elementary in Weston Fla.. In it, browardnewsnetwork.blogspot.com reports that:

Parents have notified the Broward County School Police of the corruption in Manatee Bay Elementary in Weston Fla. The PTA and the Principal send a letter Sept 2012 that they no longer would do catalog sales that they would do the duck donations parents that would donate $50 the kids would go to a mega party, parents that would donate $100 kids would go to a mega party. It is illegal to exclude kids because the parents cannot afford to donate $100 and the principal was advised that parents where not happy about it and she promised the parents that she would include all the children. Oct 31,2012 Manatee Bay had the Mega party it was during school hours and ONLY the children that paid $100 where allow to go to the cafeteria and enjoy the party with the Miami Heat getting souvenirs, pizza and dance. The kids that parents send cash did not get invited since any cash that goes into Manatee Bay disappears. That is DISCRIMINATION, what do we want to teach our children? that ONLY the children that parents have money can go to parties and enjoy the school? do we want the kids to be separated the rich kids and the poor kids they have to be punish because the parents cannot afford to donate $100 is that a good example?

I've heard the teachers and staff can't stand the Principal Ms. Devaughn but they are afraid of her.
Why is she still at our school. As a parent, I am insulted that she is doing this to our kids.

We need a real caring principal not one that is there just to benefit herself.

I am shocked that so many people would jump to judgement and assume that the principal is guilty of something. She is caring and always professional when I see her at the school. Shouldn't we allow for an audit before we throw stones. Last time I checked, in the USA, people are innocent until proven guilty.

I think Ron Mills might benefit from the many classes taught at Manatee Bay Elementary on proper writing techniques before grammatically butchering whatever false dribble he is attempting to convey.

Dear Mr. Mills,
It is a shame that rumors are being spread through your ignorance and inaccuracies. Before you choose to use the internet as a slanderous weapon, I would recommend you get to know the truths.
Truth #1: Catalog fundraising sales have existed for many, many years. Each year, students sell catalog merchandise to family and friends to raise money for their school. Over the years, the quality of the catalog merchandise decreases as the percentage of sales they keep from the sales dramatically increases. The merchandise is delivered to the school broken, missing or just in terrible undeliverable quality. The parents at Manatee Bay had enough of selling junk and receiving only 40% of the sales. Instead, Manatee Bay asked for TAX DEDUCTIBLE voluntary donations from parents. There was no requirement to donate anything. And a $1.00 donation would get you the coveted prize of the duck! 100% of the proceeds went back to programs offered at the school and 100% of the donors received receipts to use on their 2012 tax forms.
Truth #2: As long as catalog sales have existed, so have prize and Mega Party structures. When you sold so many products from the catalogs, you were invited to a fun - during school hours - party that was only held for the qualifying students. I didn’t see anyone complain when their child wasn’t invited to the Science Mega Party or BMX Mega Party. And, yes, those parties did happen in years past. By the way, the Heat party did NOT include pizza or dancing.
Truth #3: The Miami Heat is scheduled to come back to conduct a fun, energy-packed presentation for the entire student body at the school. That has been planned for some time, but because of the Heat’s schedule as well as the school’s preparations for test-taking, it had to be planned for the beginning of April.
Truth #4: There is no discrimination at Manatee Bay Elementary. Each and every student benefits from all the programs and equipment furnished by the PTA. Each and every student participates in Math Superstars (a math program), Meet the Masters (an arts program), field day, and countless other programs. Each and every student receives Scholastic News and other additional educational materials supplied by the PTA. Each and every student is invited to family fun events, sometimes at a small entrance fee. The PTA pays for additional lunches so that each and every student is fed each and every day at Manatee Bay. Each and every student benefits from the 19 ELMOS purchased this year so that each room could have the equipment they need.
Please get your facts straight. Come on in to our office which we staff 5 days per week during school hours with volunteers, if you have real questions. We all work outside jobs, have busy family schedules, but yet somehow find the time to donate our time and energy to make sure EACH and EVERY student at Manatee Bay has the best elementary school out there!
Corruption, you say? The word that comes to my mind is slander!

I am a parent at manatee bay and is a LIE you guys discriminated against the kids that could NOT afford to pay $100 you had the mega party and ONLY the kids that paid the $100 got to go DURING school hours, you NEVER gave any kids tools to help themselves. How about the kids from Sheridan home?so STOP your lies,
2) why are the class parents asking parents for supplies? Teachers DO NOT HAVE ANY SUPPLIES, school is filthy again because there is NO MONEY, the heat party was suppose to happen TWO weeks after and NOTHING has happen.ELMO'S what is the price of an ELMO? STOP your lies and yes you do discriminate why did you ONLY invited the kids with MONEY to the "MEGA" party? I am a father and I see so much pain in the kids eyes I help my daughters class and she paid the $100 but she didn't go to the "party" because they made "mistake" and forgot to take her. Really EACH and EVERY student has the best elementary school? that is why the PTA and CLUB 205 violated the Jessica Lungsford act!! having vendors that are NOT badge and cleared by Broward County School Board that is the BEST, I think that the best thing that can happen to Manatee Bay is to clean the corruption in the PTA and the Principal.

Since when volunteers get pay? That is what the PTA is doing at Manatee Bay. They are dirty and all of the PTA staff are liars. They are paying volunteers to due the pullouts since the "reading specialist" is the principals pet and gets allow to do whatever she wants. Now anybody can be a consultant for the PTA and get $400 ah and let me not forget to add that the consultant is also a PTA member!! But Manatee Bay is a GREAT SCHOOL right?

Manatee Bay PTA stop trying to defend yourselves because you are also involve in the corruption.
Why did you allow the president to extend her tenure? This had to be approved by the PTA National Council. All of you were profitting from the monies donated by us.
Shame on all of you and on the principal.
You don't care for kids, you care for the money you make from us.
Your days are numbered.

Shame on ALL of you who have nothing to do but destroy your own school! If you are so terribly concerned about what is going on get in there and HELP! I see the same parents and hard working PTA ladies devoting their time...where are the other 1000 parents?!?!? In your effort to lay blame you are only furthering the tension and sadness at school. My child has not always been able to attend the Mega Parties...you don't see me SCREAMING discrimination! All schools have the same form of fundraisers, check it out people! I HAVE...know what you are talking about before you publicly try to make a MOCKERY of your own school. I don't hear one of you talking about any of the GOOD things at our school. SAD, SAD, SAD and shame on you parents who do ALL the talking and none of the doing! BTW my child is in Club 2:05 and YES all the teachers and instructors have clearance and badges! Did any of you check that out before you posted?!?!

There are several things about this post that bothers me.
1. The fundraiser is no different than any other fundraiser held at the school. There have always been tiers set up for prizes. Every year the top sellers win prizes.
2. Why are you choosing a public forum to slander people? Where is this "proof"? Is this the intent of this blog, to slander people and post comments without backing them up?
3. Manatee Bay PTA has MANY people who donate countless hours to the school for the better of the school. If they were in it for the money, volunteering for the PTA is not the way to do it.
4. The ASP program was brought up to the parents and was voted on by the School Advisory Council. Are they in on the "scam" too??
5. I also noticed that MOST of the posts come from a "Hollywood, Fl" address. Funny, since Manatee Bay is not in Hollywood.
6. It looks like one person posting comments over and over again.

Our school is a great school with a corrupted principal who retaliates against any of us that speaks up.
ASP was not voted by parents. It was revised and parents were no longer allowed to vote. This is the reason ASP was placed at ours school.

The private companies that did the clubs last semester were not cleared by the school board.
The problem with parents is that you don't know all the ins and outs of the school system.

It is corrupted. We've never charged our students for FCAT camp until this principal starting charging. Don't you find that concerning?

Why are you trying to cover up corruption when we are trying to save our students and our school!!!!

We trust in the system of justice and all of you will see the truth in due time.

I have a 2nd grade boy I have been in the school for two years and I have so much problems with my son in that school. Every time I try to make an appointment with the principal they alway give me the run around. Her secretary believes that she is god and always looks down at the parents. I am from Venezuela so my English is not so good and I went to talk to the principal to tell her that $50 for ice cream party was to much and $100 I could not give my son and she said that she was sorry but they had the rules and that if a child didn't bring money they could not go to the party. I gave $25 and my son did not go to any party. The teacher asked the class to buy him paper ink also to clean the hands that the school has no money so where did the money that they got go, they have a lady in the cafeteria with white hair very skinny and she always screams at my son and I told the principal and then they told me that the principal covers her group that steals and that is why the principal did not do anything. It is embarrassing that she is still there the principal when she doesn't care about our sons or daughters

Why are all the comments written with terrible grammar?

Does this school have an assistant principal? Why isn't she being called out on any of this? Isn't there a bookkeeper and secretary that sign off on all of this?

Don't they consistently have high test scores? Is there anything right about this school? Why are you going on a blog if you are truly interested in "helping"? Shouldn't you go to her boss? What exactly are you hoping to achieve by bashing the school? Anyone who truly cared about the school would go to her boss. This makes the teachers, staff and everything look bad. Was that your plan?

If she were guilty wouldn't someone have at least investigated? It's a huge school. No one said anything?!? I doubt it.

Maybe those running certain events are pocketing the money? If so how would the Principle know? Who checks the accounting for Club 205 and other events? How many parents pay with cash?
