I grew up in Webster County, and me and my siblings all have moved away from WV and we always speek about the custard stand and how we wish it was in Ohio near Akron or Canton.

I usually never comment back because of getting comments like this. I had a wonderful childhood and I was just reminiscing about my past in WV. My mother passed away and our parents did not have very much money so our treat was going to the custard stand.

I'm so glad that you have such good memories of home. I've been told that if you request the chili at your grocery store, it will be stocked. To me, it isn't quite as good as it was in the old Custard Stand, but it'll work for a fond memory.

According to the Custard Stand web site, they sell their chili in: Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and throughout West Virginia.

The custards stand chili is NOT the original chili that was made here when the older ladies ran the food stand. It's not as good, I don't know how they got it to be such a huge seller; I guess because the newer generation never got to try the really good chili!

My daughter wanted a hot dog the other day when we went to Webster. We finally got our food and EVERYTHING was ice cold. She is only 4 and when she complains about cold french fries that is really bad.

When you get a meal like that, take it back to the window and let them know about it.

I would be afraid that if you complained then they would spit or something in my food.

I have the original recipe from Dee's aunt that was given to my aunt back in the 70's. It's sure better than what they sell now. I personally don't get all the hype over what they sell now-it's just not good.I agree with 4sure-they never had the good stuff.

Elsie's recipe and the Custard Stand recipes are different.
When the Custard Stand used to make it on the stove top before they started the mass production of it, it had a better taste to it.
Somehow after they started making hundreds of gallons a day now, they have some how lost the taste of their Chili.
