Bourbon's one of those subjects that tends to inspire strong opinions. Maybe it's the effect of the bourbon itself, but there are some bourbon extremists who claim that the very existence of the United States as a sovereign nation owes something to corn liquor.

Inaccurate!!!! Bourbon can be made anywhere in the United States not anywhere in the world! and Jack Daniels is Not a Bourbon, it's a Tennessee Whiskey. It is a Bourbon until it is slowly dripped through ten feet of charred sugar maple. This makes it a Tennessee Whiskey!

John is correct.

Jack is not a bourbon. It is a Tennessee Whiskey, a distinction that is shared with only George Dickel. The other "Tennessee Whiskey", which is quite good as well.

I don't worry too much about the sugar maple drip for Tn products. I doubt all Tn products from the begining have used that process. It just takes some of cogeners out of the distillate...which, really isn't that good of an idea...for future flavors and complexity.

My issue is with the author calling Malt and Yeast..the same thing. Which they are not.

Also, it doesn't make any difference whether they spell whisky with an ey or y. That has nothing to do with how it tastes or is made.

Lastly, the biggest difference in the use of Blended whisky instead of Straight whisky. All Canadian whisky is blended with neutral spirits...aka Vodka. About three fourths of a bottle of Canadian whisky is made up of Vodka and flavorings. Don't waste your money on products watered down with Vodka. Good Ole' Straight Bourbon contains no Vodka, colorings or flavorings. When compared to Straight Bourbon...Canadian whisky is a total ripoff.

You can easily make your own Blended whisky by taking some Ky Bourbon and adding two parts vodka to one part bourbon. You will end up saving about 75% on what a Canadian whisky will run you.*math: one handle of inexpensive bourbon=$12, two handles of inexpensive vodka=$18, >>total=$30 for three quarter gallon of blended whisky. Compared to $25 for a 750ml of Crown Royal.
Don't be a sucker and pay extra for blended whisky.

Bourbon can ONLY be made in Ky & some parts of Indiana.

That's incorrect, Zorro. Bourbon can be made in any State in America. As long as it's labeled as coming from that specific State.
