The REAL reason for so many charter schools in York is $$$$ They see York the same way snake oil salesmen saw the bumpkins during the 20s and 30s. They know people are disenchanted with the public schools. So they come in a prey on the fears of parents and take the money from the tax paying public.

Man in Black, you are correct, but why not go all the way and inform Mr. Turner that Charter Schools were introduced by the King of all Egos, Van NewKirk, when he brough Charter Schools to York and gave away a brand new School, Lincoln, to boot. Not only do the Charter School lovers prey on the fears of parents to fill their greedy pockets but the also play the race card very well.
And, if you want to finish off the truth, tell him that the folks of York actually believe that they can get a better education for their child in a charter school. Now tell me, how stupid is that?
And, inform Mr. Turner that this place is so messed up that they often quote him, a lame duck school board member, in the paper who was dissed by his own party to remain on the board.
Run for the board Mr. Turner and see if your Charlie Robinson coat tails can out run Toni Smith for you to at last win an election. I will vote for you.

King of all Blacks - You're back, how was the visit with the wifey?

The reason why so many charter schools want to be in York is because they see that it's ripe for the picking.

Wait until the citizens hear about the Race to the Top grant and which schools are effected.

There already is a New Hope charter school. Now there's going to be a Hope charter school? If there was a reporter who had an ounce of curiosity, he would find out how much the city school district is paying all these charter and alternative schools. I'll bet it's in the millions. Your tax money with wings.

while I have not bothered to look for exact numbers, it is quite a sum. Anyone who thinks any charter school is going to move in and lose money is stupid. They are all here to make a profit.
