Rick Scott Admits He Was in Colorado for Koch Brothers Retreat

A few other politicians headed to the conference had no problems revealing they were going on the trip, like Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Virginia's Gov. Robert McDonnell and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

But trying to conceal himself from the media isn't helping him, as mentioned in today's profile on Scott from the New York Times.

At least he's finally admitted to trysting with the richest and most powerful conservative political donors in the nation.

American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)

The Koch Brothers, big tobacco, insurance companies, and the drug industry: all behind the shadowy corporate front group known as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). On the surface, ALEC is mostly comprised of thousands of state legislators, each paying a nominal fee to attend ALEC retreats and receive model legislation. In reality, corporations pay ALEC a king’s ransom to access legislators to distribute radical legislation that puts corporate interests over American workers and consumers.

ALEC: Puppetmaster for Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Scott Walker

Not coincidentally, bills similar to those in Florida and Wisconsin have been introduced in Arizona, California, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Vermont.”

Naturally the Koch brothers are involved in ALEC and you know by now when you sniff a Koch, a Palin, Bachmann or Walker is not far behind. The puppets are “Copyright, ALEC”, just as the “model” legislation is marked before it’s sent out to the folks you pay to represent you in DC and at home, in your state government.

The ALEC puppet, brought to you by the GOP, because nothing says democracy like a for sale sign on your back and a corporate logo where your heart is supposed to beat.
Beware the ALEC puppet. They just keep making more of them. We expose one and out comes another soulless monster, with a plastic smile and an empty resume, full of “common sense conservative values.”

GOP agenda puts too much in greedy private sector

Pasted from < http://www.news-press.com/article/20110801/OP... |head>

Tax cuts and small government: Sounds appealing, doesn’t it? But when voters discover the details of the Republican agenda, they don’t like what they find, as in Wisconsin where a massive recall movement is underway to get rid of conservative politicians who are taking the state in a direction voters have concluded they don’t want to go.

Make no mistake: Republicans are not merely business-friendly; they want to fundamentally reshape our society into one in which the marketplace governs all aspects of our lives and where government is merely a conduit for channeling taxpayer dollars into private business hands.

The Bush administration tried to privatize Social Security. Republicans in Congress recently introduced a plan for privatizing Medicare. Many states across the nation have wholly or partly privatized their prison systems. Many of the jobs traditionally performed by our military personnel have been outsourced to private companies like Halliburton and Blackwater USA. In Florida, Gov. Rick Scott and his minions are in the process of privatizing Medicaid (over the anguished pleas of recipients). The ultimate goal of educational “reformers” such as Jeb Bush, Bill Gates and the Koch brothers is the privatization of K-12 education.

If the marketplace was a benign arena with a level playing field, it might not be such a bad idea to decide everything there. But the marketplace is a dog-eat-dog arena where the goal of companies is to tilt the playing field in their favor, and where there are winners and there are losers. Unfortunately the losers are often ordinary consumers.

In states with prison systems run by private companies, we’ve seen those companies spending millions of dollars lobbying legislatures to enact stiffer prison sentences for various crimes; there have even been cases of judges bribed by these companies to send first-time offenders to prison and to impose prison sentences for misdemeanors. Maximizing profits trumps justice.

In the weeks before the invasion of Iraq, executives from Halliburton, Blackwater USA and other companies actively lobbied Congress and the Bush administration in favor of going to war. There’s no question that these executives were influential in shaping policy. Maximizing profits trumped peace.

Psychiatrists admit they created the euthanasia program and ideology that fueled Hitlers holocaust

------

In examining the basis of Nazism’s social and political philosophy, one cannot help but notice the role that psychiatry played in promulgating the hatred, racism, and elitism that permeated German society during Hitler’s era. Even before Hitler’s rise to power, the nihilism of Nietzsche, Darwin, Malthus, and others contributed greatly to the framework of National Socialism.

From the days of WWI, psychiatry allied itself with the German military, creating an environment that treated the foot soldiers that suffered from shell shock, post traumatic stress, and battle fatigue as mentally inferior, and subjected them to sadistic treatments, all in the name of science. Soon racist theory and psychiatric theory merged into an unholy alliance that was enthusiastically embraced by Hitler and his rising party, giving an air of scientific legitimacy to the atrocities that were eventually committed during Nazi rule.

In 1895 Dr. Alfred Ploetz first published the “scientific” basis for what would become the Nazi racial hygiene program. His idea of controlling genetic characteristics inspired a whole generation of psychiatrists to create genetic guidelines that determined the biological value of a human being. His theories led to the systematic murder of entire segments of society as racial cleansing became the means to creating the superior Aryan ideal.

Through the acquisition of political power, Hitler and his party were able to legislate additional venues of racial cleansing, especially euthanasia, as a “humane” means to end the life of those with physical deformities, mental defects, and incurable illnesses. As the government continued to push the “humanity” of these laws, German society began to accept the twisted logic behind it. Also helping was the giant Nazi propaganda machine, which reiterated the message daily.

The scientists, physicians, and psychiatrists of early 20th century Germany abandoned the main rule of medicine – first do no harm. Sadly these ideas did not perish with the Nazi regime. At the end of WWII, the OSS (the forerunner to the CIA) began to smuggle into the United States many of the men in the German scientific community, ostensibly to keep Russia from co-opting their talents. Several of these doctors and psychiatrists became the personal physicians of American presidents during their terms in office, influencing public policy in medicine and education. Some found their way into the military and the CIA, performing unethical experiments on soldiers and United States citizens, all in the name of science.

And today we see their influence in medicine and bioethics. Doctors and psychiatrists with mindsets no different than those in Hitler’s Germany are pushing to the forefront of American society the ideas of euthanasia and quality of life in terms of a person’s value to society. Our educational institutions, from elementary to college level, are offering curricula in “Values Clarification”,“Moral Reasoning”,“Death Education”, and “Bioethics”, to name a few - all designed to improve the “mental health” of the next generation. It is a chilling reminder of the deliberate programming visited upon the German children by the Nazi party in the 1930s.

Historic Precedent

In the momentous article "Medical Science Under Dictator-ship," Dr. Leo Alexander, the chief U.S. medical consultant at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, examined "the process by which the German medical profession became a willing and unquestioning collaborator with the Nazis." He noted the early changes in medical attitudes that predisposed German physicians to first collect data on their patients to conduct what today we call "cost-effective analysis," and then to use the latter information as a vehicle to commit medical genocide under the auspices of the totalitarianism of National Socialism.
Dr. Alexander warns us that "from small beginnings" the values of an entire society may be subverted, leading to the horrors of a police state.
The "small beginnings" in Nazi Germany that Dr. Alexander referred to first led the physicians to collect data from their patients and then violate their patients' privacy and medical record confidentiality by supplying the information to the state.(6)
Organizations with humanitarian-sounding names were set up in Nazi Germany to institute "health" programs, under deceptive, euphemistic terms.
For example, questionnaires collected by a "Realm's Work Committee of Institutions for Cure and Care" gathered and reported information on patients who had been ill five years or more and who were unable to work.
"On the basis of name, race, marital status, nationality, next of kin, whether regularly visited and by whom, who bore financial responsibility, and so forth," decisions were ultimately made for the patient euthanasia program heralded by the Nazi government for the good of the state and the "health of the nation."
The first steps taken toward barbarism were the result of the physicians' willingness to participate in patient data collection and the violation of medical privacy. "Corrosion," as Dr. Alexander wrote, "begins in microscopic proportions."
German physicians were, more than any other profession, heavily represented in the Nazi Party, which they joined in droves.
German psychiatrists were no exception, and they also enthusiastically supported Nazi Germany's gun control laws of 1938 that disarmed the civilian population and left a monopoly of force in the hands of the German military and the SS.
The rest, as we say, is history.

AMA Becomes Political

As to the commitment of the AMA to weakening medical privacy and individual-based ethics in favor of population-based ethics and achieve a partnership with government, there is no longer any doubt.(7,8)
In the case of the American Psychiatric Association, one only has to peruse its position statement on homicide prevention and gun control promulgated by its leadership as early as 1993: "In view of the need to reinforce individual and group sanctions against the use of violence as a social instrument, behavioral mode, or adaptorional [sic] pattern, as psychiatrists have done with drug abuse, suicidal actions, and antisocial behavior, the American Psychiatric Association recommends that strong controls be placed on the availability of all types of firearms to private citizens."(9)
Why would the AMA and organized medicine become involved in this politically expedient but potentially explosive issue of gun control and condone the systematic violation of the privacy of vulnerable patients?

GOP agenda puts too much in greedy private sector

The American people have been subjected to a massive propaganda campaign in recent years, the thesis of which is that public education is a failure and that a private sector business model is what is needed to save it. Despite there being no evidence to suggest that programs such as merit pay for teachers enhance educational outcomes or that charter schools educate better than public ones, these educational “reformers” are determined to push ahead with an ideology admittedly based on their “gut instincts” that private is better than public.

The marketplace has its uses and will always be hugely influential, but there are areas of our society such as health care, education, the justice system, the military, and the safety net for senior citizens and the disadvantaged, that should not be governed by the profit motive. There are many honest traders in the marketplace, but shysters and charlatans (Ken Lay, Bernie Madoff) also abound. Far more people have been harmed by greed and corruption, which are the by-products of the profit motive, than have ever been harmed by government malfeasance. It is not merely the prerogative, it is the duty of government to protect citizens from the abuses of the marketplace.
