At the Candidate’s Forum in Frankfort last week Ray Franz said that the Great Lakes are not at risk, that it is a “mis-begotten fallacy.” He said that “the western states that want our water won’t be coming to Lake Michigan to get your water, they’re gonna go to the Mississippi River and stop there; it makes no sense to put a pipeline all the way to Lake Michigan.” Ray Franz’s called the recently signed Great Lakes Compact unnecessary saying that doing more to protect the Great Lakes is "ridiculous."
Southern and western states lured our Michigan citizens with a warmer climate, yet they still want the lush green lawns they had in Michigan when they now live in a desert. They lured our companies with a promise of cheaper labor and few regulations, yet they want our water to supply their factories when their rivers dry up. Are we to trust that southern and western states and other countries are not thirsty enough to take our water?
Dan Scripps is passionate about protecting the integrity of the Great Lakes. As State Representative he will close the loopholes that allow private companies to take our water. Scripps believes that Michigan’s water is a public trust belonging to the people of Michigan. Great Lakes water is not for sale. Ray Franz is out of touch on the issue of Great Lakes water and he cannot be trusted to uphold the other values we hold dear. Vote for Dan Scripps for State Representative.
