I think its good that they updated the place. My grandmother used to be a waitress there and my father helped tear down the original place to be ready to rebuild it. We also have a few keep-sakes from there that they were throwing out including many old bottles and an antique fire alarm.

I don't know about you, but it's the only best thing that has happened in the area for many years. What do you think?

I grew up in Bedford and all my family is still there. This is going to be great for the community. The economy there is in dire need of a boost!!

Next it will be gambling, and that's when all the hookers and vagabonds come in. Glad I moved.

So letting a beautiful small town die because of small minded people like you is better? You need to do your homework before you run your mouth. Taxes aren't going to change because of the hotel. Oh, and I don't think many hookers and vagabonds frequent upscale resorts!

heh heh

I read the other day where the county GAVE a 1/2 million to the resort, INSTEAD of updating a 911 system that is in dire need of an update. And I still don't understand how giving a small percentage of the community a playhouse, and totally excluding the average local is beneficial to the local area (i.e.$110 to play golf). Do you really think the stiffnecks from DC are going to stop at Mom and Pop's pizza to boost the local economy? No. It will be rte 70/30 straight to the resort, and straight home. Now if the springs is going to pump money back into the community, then I could understand it. But I can't imagine the county is going to get their 1/2 million back, and I don't think the resort is going to generate many high paying jobs. I need you to show me your homework so I CAN understand it. Because I don't.

First of all it's not a "playhouse" for a small percentage of the community and for the ones who can take advantage of it more power to them. The shops downtown will most certainly benefit from the "stiffnecks" as you call them. I live in the city and I know what people want to do on the weekends. Get away, relax, and spend money in quaint shops, which Bedford has plenty of. By the way, what do you have against people that have done well for themselves? I guess I just don't understand why you are so against it. Maybe it's because you have nothing invested in the county. I have plenty and am very excited about the venture, sorry you're not!!

Oh, by the way...route 30 doesn't go to the Springs. It's route 220 and both 220 and 30 go through the town!

I can not even beleive that I am dignifying sick of its comments. You seem like a very bitter person. No I can not afford to go to the Springs very often, but I sure appreciate what they have done for my property value. And as for taxes going up, oh well. There has not been a reassesment in decades so to use the quote from the old Springs motto, Che Sara Sara

So how was the re-opening? Anything exciting to report. I'm 1500 miles away now, so it would be nice to hear what the folks who still live in the area have to say.

Came across the Hotel several years ago..while out driving around. I have been obsessed with it ever since ! Even sent for the book by Ned Freer about the Springs ! Last year while at the Fall Foilage Festival, I learned that it would be restored ! I am trying to get a room for October ! I have pictures that I took when I first saw it ! I am SO GLAD that someone felt inspired to SAVE a great landmark ! Can't wait to see it ! In fact... I MAY have to drive over there BEFORE October ! I would have LOVED to see the first guests drive up in the horse & buggy ! Just like Gone With The Wind !! GOOD FOR YOU, BEDFORD !!!

I work at the Springs and it is very grand looking. We have a spa, golf shop, outdoor store, and a little gift shop that has some art from local craftsmen, along with some paintings from local artist Kevin Kutz. Im very happy to say that we are close to having everything up and running. The golf prices are a little high BUT if you look at anything in golf its all expensive, so id have to say that most people are not going to even blink at spending between $70-$135 to play a round on a wonderful looking course. I dont play golf and just from looking at the grounds makes me want to be out there if just to see it. Have a great day and please stop in to see us Bedford County cant wait to meet you.

Most local residents I talked to are very upset about the golf prices. There should be a discount for anyone living in Bedford County. It's only fair, since they're the ones who helped pay for the place.

One person loves the fact that it raised their property value?OMG!How petty is that?!?I don't care how upscale the place is!Why don't u go in and apply for a job there and see what u get paid.Crap money! Most people that live in or around Bedford can even afford to take their familys for a weekend of fun let alone take them to a resort. The pay around here sucks.Good damn thing housing is cheap!!!And ya know instead of funding a resort why not put something here for the children to do.All there is is the skating rink and that's been there since I was little.Beford County BLOWS!!!

If Bedford County is so bad than move. I am so sick of hearing all the white trash in the area complain about everything but are too lazy to get off their welfare asses and do something about it. Educate yourself and stop having babies to everybody and their brother(or sister for that matter)!!!
