Arrests follow Rice Lake drug bust; fifteen charges filed

By: Mary Glynn

Two 21-year-olds and a 23-year-old were arrested and charged in Barron County Circuit Court with 15 felony and misdemeanor counts among them, including maintaining a drug trafficking place, after Rice Lake police executed an early-morning search warrant on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 514 N. Wilson Avenue.

James M. Gatti, 23, and Cara K. Wohlk, 21, both of 514 N. Wilson in Rice Lake, and Kameron M. Dushinske, 21, of 110 E. River Avenue in Barron, were also charged with possession of methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinols (THC) and drug paraphernalia during their initial court appearances on Friday, Dec. 30.

Rice Lake police entered the house at 5:34 a.m. and found the three people in the two bedrooms. According to the criminal complaint, police also found in the house 3.79 grams of methamphetamine, 1.49 grams of marijuana, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia including hypodermic needles, glass pipes, a plastic pipe and spoon, gem baggies, a marijuana grinder, black plastic homemade bong, and scraps of paper on the kitchen table with handwritten notes referring to the fractions 1/2 or 1/4. Gatti's coat contained $170, and $210 and $175 were found in each of the two bedrooms.

Judge James C. Babler set a $1,000 cash bond for Gatti, who was also charged Dec. 30 with felony and misdemeanor bail jumping for violating his bond conditions. Gatti was charged on September 28 in Rusk County Circuit Court with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft stemming from a June 3 incident. He was released on Nov. 8 on a $9,000 signature bond, with one of the conditions that he not commit new crimes. He was due in Rusk County court on Tuesday, Jan. 3, for a review hearing on that case.

Gatti was also out on $150 cash bail in Barron County, where he was charged on Oct. 10 with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, domestic abuse using a dangerous weapon. That charge relates to an Oct. 7 incident where police were called to 516 N. Wilson after a 9-1-1 report of a man with a gun. Rice Lake officers found Cara Wohlk sitting on the front porch, upset and crying, talking on her cell phone, according to the criminal complaint. She allegedly told police that she and Gatti were breaking up, but he would not permit her to take "his" dog.

She said Gatti had pointed a gun at himself and said he could not live without her. She also told police, however, there was no physical violence or contact between them. Officers found a loaded handgun in a bedroom between the mattress and a box spring and arrested Gatti.
