Well, it's ridiculous, but it's not a violation of any rights. "Forcing" someone to go to church? Where's the outrage over FORCING SOMEONE TO GO TO JAIL?
<p>
Where's the fracking ACLU when it comes to inadequate food, forcibly interrupted sleep under bright lights, no privacy even in the toilet, filthy coarse clothing, filthy thin bedding, "medical" care that would embarrass Haitians? Where's the fracking self-righteous pretentious useless ACLU when you spend 72 hours on a freezing steel bench with no food or liquids except a piece of white bread and a pint of milk at shift change, while the so-called officers are playing computer video games?
What defines "non-violent offenders"? Usually prostitution and drug use. Easier solution? Legalize prostitution and drug use. If a person is DUI, treat driving while texting or using cold medicine or marijuana the same as alcohol. A person who wants or needs to have sex for money, and anyone who cares to patronize them, is a consenting adult making an informed choice, and no one else's business.
Most "non-violent offenders" are illiterate, mentally ill, or destitute and no longer give a rat's carcass about anything. A decent church may be able to find them a tutor or mental help or a job and a place to stay. For absolutely certain, a jail will not. Jail staff are mostly illiterate themselves, mostly sadistic psychopaths, and only not behind bars themselves because they're related to a politician.
And the fracking ACLU? A battalion of self-important incompetents trading paperwork around their paneled offices, who have never actually accomplished anything. They defend only whoever pays them the most money, and almost never successfully. Screw them with a power tool.

Given your comments about the non-violent no longer giving a rat's carcass about anything would you say that it would be better to line them up and give them a double tap to the back of the head?
I do share your charming sentiments about the ACLU however.

don't be stupid and do something illegal and then you wont have to worry about spending 72 hours on a freezing bench,no privacy in the toilet etc... i am no fan of the aclu, bottom line dont do something illegal and you wont have any problems of this sort.
