Fort Morgan restoration
concerned American

United States

I recently visited Our Historic National Landmark and i was outraged of the hidious powder blue colors that were used to paint areas of the Fort have asked attendants at gate, museum, have emailed, and sign comment form asking why this color and have not gotten answers. i have pics if any1 intrested. I believe we deserve a answer. Is this a question for Bob Riley and E&J builders who's names are displayed and is the builder qulified to do historical restoration of this magnitude built in 1819, also used in Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War 1 or am i just being a over reacting woman but i am a tax payer a born proud AMERICAN that just wants to knw why

If you mean the walls enclosing the casemates (the barracks and laundry area) then I beleive the light blue is correct historically for the fort in its early construction.

Light blue was the standard color of paint for army equipment from the time of the Revolution through the Mexican War and even part of the War Between the States/Civil War (your preference here probably by birth).

Eventually it would be replaced with ordinance Gray (drab) and OD Green (we civilians call it olive green today) that the army used to paint cannon carriages.

Well I haven't been there since I accompanied my daughter's 5th grade class there 18 months ago-- but that is what I saw.

Looks like the curator has long done a specific time period look for the early years of the fort (w/ the light blue), the 1860s (with the OD green) and the late 1800's in the Spanish American concrete battery areas.

The barrack and laundry looked pretty good to me, and looked a great deal like the photos of that and other US forts at the time.

If you saw other stuff in the construction/rennovation that I didn't describe here, then I can't help you-- as I haven't seen that.

Hope this helps-- I do not work at the fort or for the management-- but they may be of more help if you ask them nicely. Glad you pay your taxes. I do too.
