I think that it is high time for the Mayor to go. This is the last straw, the people of Summerdale must make their voices heard. If you want this to change vote him out of office, or you can sit by and watch as he and the city council do what they please. I was under the impression that their job was to serve us, not each other.

I agree with buck ! This chief is serious about his LAW enforcement job . Don't know him personally . But know that he is serious about his carer . And with knowing about the POLITICS here in Baldwin County . I would be willing to bet he got caught with not wanting to being in THE CLICK ! poor guy ! and willing to back him in any way !!!

Foley went through this same problem about 3-years ago. Hopefully, we have an independent police force now--I think we do. Most small-town Mayors and City Councils think that their police department works for them and if anything is left over--then that police department can serve the public.

It sounds to me as if the Mayor has a personal vendetta against the Chief and Corporal. I think these two spoke up at the last workshop. I wonder if that had anything to do with this situation. It seems strange that now they are not capable of doing their job. As far as I know, they are both good police officers. They do protect the people. The mayor and council are supposed to work for the people also but it does not seem as though the people count for anything as far as they are concerned. I thought enough people spoke out at the workshop in favor of the police department to let the mayor and council know how they felt. I guess it really does not matter what the people want. If he can't get rid of the whole department he will look for reasons to get rid of them one by one. I am really sorry for our police officers. We have to come with a way to stop all this mess. IT IS RIDICULOUS!!

You guys is Summerdale should try to get your hands on a big report that resulted from an investigation in Foley about 3-years ago that cost the taxpayers of Foley over $160,000. There was something going on between the some members of the City Council and the Foley Police Department. Whatever it was, concerned the County and ultimately the State enough to demand an independent investigator to look into it. About 10 days before the release of the report on this investigation which took over a year to do, the then Mayor of Foley who had been the Mayor of Foley for about 12 years, suddenly decided to resign. The final report is highly redacted so I would guess that those items that were redacted were done so to protect the Good Old Boys. Anyway, there was so much stink about this whole affair that Foley now has a new Mayor and a new Police Chief and things are much better. You might have to go through the same process to clean house in your town.

Chief Dwain Riebeling, good job! Just cause you try and od the right thing and provide protection for Summerdale Residents you get made to look like the bad guy. What about the council members (aren't the related, thus a conflict of interest?) who are more interested in lining their pockets than serving the citizens? Hope this witch hunt ends soon and Chief Riebeling is bad serving the community soon and the real witches are burned!!!!

The mayor of Summerdale has always been out to get rid of the police force and he will stop at nothing til he gets it. The people of the Town Of Summerdale need to take a stand and stop the bullying from the council and mayor. He is a hipacrit and calls himself a Christian. The deeds this man have done are unknown to some but not to all. His day will come. Maybe someone should ask him how his business took off after he bacme mayor. Maybe he is the one who needs investigating

"He is a hipacrit and calls himself a Christian"

Isn't that the definition of a "Christian"? At least it applies to every Christian I have ever met.

So is this really about the city buying a building they could not afford and going over budget? If they get rid of the Chief and all his officers it would cover up hundreds of thoughsands of dollars they went over their budget?

What about the related members of the council? Should that not be enough for the feds to investigate under the Sunshine Laws?

Everyone is just trying to do there job and do what they think is best for there town as a whole. This town is trying to grow and growing takes hard change and difficult decisions. Look what you all are teaching your children...no wonder the world is like it is today...be thankful for what you have in your own lives and that you at least have a safe town to live in. Your alive today and you have a roof over your head and a mayor and council who is trying there best. They are human...so are you! You should help your town instead of ridiculing and pointing out every mistake that is made. Give peace a chance and work together to make this town grow and make it better. Bitterness never helped anyone. Be thankful for what you have in this town so far and be thankful you arent dealing with the things that the people in afganistan and japan and other countries in the world are dealing with right now. It's very sad to read all of these degrading comments about such a nice little town and a small town government that is just trying to figure things out. No one is perfect. And it isn't you alls place to judge there character...that is Gods place whether youre a christian or not. If you aren't thankful for what you have in this town then you should live in a different one because complaining doesn't help anyone become better. There are people who are much worse off then you guys are right now...think about those in need rather than complain about things. If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all...try saying something kind about the town today...hatred is what is tearing apart the world. What if you died tomorrow would you be proud of the hate you said today?

What you are saying is that is okay for the Mayor and Council to judge but we are should not stand up and voice our opinion when we disagree with what they have done and are doing. Are we supposed to just sit by idly and watch them ruin the lives of two families? The people spoke when they voted and put these people into office but now that they are doing something that is not right, these people should sit down, shut up and just let them do what ever they want. I have been to some of the meetings and it looks like the people voiced their concern and disaproval of getting rid of the Chief and Corporal but the Mayor and council did not listen. They are supposed to be the voice of the people. You do not have to agree with the Mayor and Council but we do have the right to voice our concerns. This also does not mean that we are not grateful for what we have. I love Summerdale and will not move but I will try to make things better for all the people. If I died tomorrow I would not have any regrets that I tried to help by standing up for MY Chief and MY police officers who put their lives on the line every day. I pray to my God that he will protect them everyday and lead me as what to do about this situation.

All I'm saying is look at both sides of the situation. Lives will not be ruined...I know what it is like to lose a job or something important in my life...I just mean that helping your town is great but using such strong words on a forum website about people doesn't help either side. It is awesome to love your town and your police chief and officer but find an effective way to help. Voicing your concerns is what our country is about but I would hope it could be done without such he said she said nonsense and done in a more understanding way and a positive way. That being said from my own experience I know that good can come out of a bad experience and that these people will get there lives back together and hey maybe they will find another passion and be happier. I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. I say voice your opinion but with suggestions and real ideas to help fix issues in the town. You say two lives were ruined and yet on this website all I see is the bashing about people who run the town and I'm just reminding that it's not an easy task to run a town and I mean it's hard enough to run a family. We can all make this town better if we work peacefully together. I think those are things that should be discussed on this website. It's okay to voice your opinion of your mayor and council but this website has a lot of libel things voices on it. I say start a forum about ideas for change and improvement and bring those things to your council. And if you are close to those who lost there jobs help them out and bring them dinner or a care basket. Make a good difference in your community :) "be the change you wish to see in the world"-Ghandi

And one more thing...I've found that people are more willing to listen depending on how you communicate with them. Accusations and getting upset when you voice things to someone just upsets everyone and gets everyones blood pressure rising. But calmly saying your opinion and concerns will keep both sides calm and make them more likely to listen. Both sides can win here depending on how the people go about presenting there side or concern. Also having logic to back up your reasonings helps your opinion sound more concerning. And one last thing the media doesn't help when they get involved. They tend to twist stories to make them presentable. I just hope to see the town I live in become better through working together and with understanding that we all make mistakes and make tough choices and that we can improve our town together. Have a nice day everyone!

Here's the facts....1)David Wilson wanted to dissolve the Police Department. Which outraged a lot of us because we found out through Rumors. Why not let us know? People stood there ground and voiced their opinions of being totally against it, and how much they respected ALL of the officers. 2)Then he decides to suspend Corp. Betner and Chief Reibeling and give them a so called Hearing in front of the people who wanted the department dissolved in the first place. 3) Well then we find out that after they were suspended, Mr wilson and the council said that the police department would definitely stay. 4)On the day of the hearing, Mr wilson never lets the town know that the Public would be able to enter, only after the council had made there choice.
Well that is very cowardly if you ask me. I can NOT even call him a Mayor. A Mayor is suppose to be the voice of the citizens, Well he is a voice of only what he wants. He is Not bettering this town at all!! In my opinion, everyone on the council, including Mr Wilson, are sorry excuses for "voices" of the people. Considering they do Not listen to the people, they only do what They want. I Love my Town and I will Not stop Voicing my opinion on anything. After all, we are in America and that is MY RIGHT!!! Every one of us know exactly what the outcome was going to be, but that's ok. His and the council's true colors are showing very Brightly now. I guess they are trying to turn this town into a Dictatorship. Well they will not Dictate me. I will Not move anywhere else either, Because i am going to help whoever runs against these people in the next election. I will cast my vote against them!! They better enjoy their time as members of the council and "mayor', I have a very strong feeling that some of those people who voted for them the last wont do it again.

Oh and one more thing....The people tried talking and being nice and soft spoken, but see that doesnt work, because the "mayor" and council DONT CARE what we think!! and By the way I am glad the Media is involved and I hope that they stay involved!! They havent twisted anything that I have seen ar heard! And Why dont you take those families a care basket and see how bad that insults them! You are very Clueless!! I saw that Mr wilson could not even comment or give any examples to his reasons for suspending them in the first place. Coward!

After reading all the post I have come to the conclusion that unanimously everyone agree's that the people want their Chief and Corporal back and their Mayor and Council to just stand up for the wishes of the people. They are being peacefull saying "Hey, we elected you so stand up for what we want, it's your job". Naturally there are personalities involved because people are human there is no way this has not became personal between the Mayor and Chief and corporal. The thing is though it just got out of hand and to ruin a person's career is not the answer but to sit down and work things out should have been. Feelings are hurt and mistrust has been lain, but it can be fixed and this should be the goal to "agree to disagree" and incompetency does not develop overnight. To bring in a laundry list of 14 items that you have allowed to continue and not address and use as an excuse for termination shows incompetence on the part of the Mayor and Council, why was it not addressed when it happened? Lick your wounds go back to your corners agree that there were "MISUNDERSTANDINGS" and a failure to communicate and get back to work protecting the citzens of Summerdale.

Maybe they should stop thinking so much and start listening. Do not blame us for what is going on in the world today. What are WE teaching our children? I do not know about you but I am teaching my childen to stand up for what they believe and do not turn your back when you believe that someone is doing wrong and there might be something they can do about it. We are trying to help our town by voicing our opinion because we do not believe that the right thing was done. I do agree that it would be insulting to take these two families a care or food basket but I promise you this, they will have lots of support from a lot of citizens of Summerdale and what was done to them will never be forgotten. This could have been handled a lot better than it was.

The investigation was requested and paid for by the city and not the county or state. The police department was actually fighting the good ole boy system at that time and is partly what caused the stir
