I agree with the banner elk town council it is not fair to subsidize business with county tax money against the Already est. business' in BE and call it economic development. I would call it economic disaster for tax payers. Previous commissioners had voted to sell the BE school as soon as the new school in BE was built and use those funds to pay down the debts of the new school, a very good and sound plan I think. Once the property is sold to the private sector lets look at what would happen then.!the value of the property would automatically go into the town of BE and the county's tax base, let's assume this property build rest., retail stores, etc. on it those buildings would go into the tax base and create tremendouse revenue for the town and the county. And lets look at how many jobs could be created with out a penny of your tax money going into it. If the county wants to promote business training they should set up something at mayland on the main campus or in the newland building that's setting being not used and get rid of the evonomic development director that we don't need, I don't blame the sheriff and some of the other department heads over there budget being slashed to try and support a program that has nothing to do with the day to day operations of the county gov. Which is the only thing that your tax money can legally be used to pay for. If Johnson. Is interested ineco development he should help people get a both at the flea market and get on the job training instead of tax payers paying to support his pet project.
