That is the point of Alcohol, to lose the controlling inhibitions and stress of being in a structured, sometimes rigid society. Unfortunately, the side effects are extremely toxic and will leave a person in a coma and possible death. Yet, once again repeating myself, the green stuff does not do these things which is not being legalized because of our rigidly unknowing society.

UVA and the police cracking down on alcohol use by students is a joke and everyone knows it. To even print a story like this is laughable to those who know that state laws don't apply to those at UVA, no matter what age they are.

The students are revered and coddled by UVa administration. You can't "look the other way" most of the time then act shocked when stuff like this happens.

UVa Admin is a joke. Groves is a hack. He knows full well this is going on. UVA policy is to SHUT both EYES and both EARS to this problem. You want them to expel drunks when they don't expel rapists.

UVA and Cville totally corrupt. Underage drinking is a nightly event in bars and frats. Even Penn State police raid bars and frats. Underage drunks walk by cops in the Corner. Don't ask don't tell is the policy.

UVA influences the police. Law enforcement in Cville follows UVA policy because they are not at arms length. Every law enforcement person in cville is compromised. How? They are either directly or indirectly connected to uva. Spouse or children work for uva. they have attended uva/and or uva law. they have worked for uva in past. they lecture at uva or have in the past. i'm talking from judges, CA and police. Nothing is at arms length.

I cannot blame the police force as they follow orders. Orders that come from the TOP.

It's ALARMING that no UVA student has been prosecuted nor expelled for raping a uva student. Other areas of the country prosecute students but apparently in uva there's a different standard.

Miss Love died and UVA covered up how they could have prevented the escalation of violence by one of their prized athletes.

Sullivan has been president for two years. She's obviously ok with the policy as nothing has changed.

Don't send your kids to UVA. It's a total sham.

The legal drinking age was 18 when I was a college student. I have 1 college graduate and 1 college senior as well as a high school sophomore . I'm very familiar with today's youths. Kids are less safe drinking in the woods or in homes of people willing o overlook the law. For the record, I've never been drunk and I don't allow my kids to drink any alcohol other than a champagne toast a weddings or new years or a small glass of wine at special family dinners at their grandparents home. That's maybe 3 times in a year. The 2 that are 21 drink responsibly. It's the hiding, the illegal purchase, the lying and the unregulated use that's a bigger problem.

With regards to police tolerance of alcohol, a University president is not an omniscient or omnipotent dictator. And a University isn't a giant high school where the president is a principal who babysits a bunch of teachers who are babysitting the children. University students are supposed to be adults. The alcohol issue is that our ridiculous laws prevent them becoming adults with regards to alcohol.
