I wish Lexington County would do away with these Blue Laws. Richland County gets ALOT of my money because that is the only day I can do my shopping, early Sundays.

Blue Laws were found to be unconstitutional back nearly 30 yrs ago in most states. SC is still that far behind everyone else. No more people go to church on Sundays with stores closed than they do when they are opened..In fact it appears more people worship Walmart than they do Church anyway..they spend the Lords tenth there too ..because churches don't take Visa!

Richland county gets alot of our $$$ as well on Sunday mornings. Why does Lexington County feel the need to keep this old law on the books? I say have a County wide vote!

We did a few years back -- but the measure was worded so that you couldn't tell if you were voting for --or against the measure.

I went down behind West main st to buy crack last Sunday but the cop told me to come back after 1:30.
Next thing you know the police chief asked me if I could put the smack down on his wife cause his hand hurts.

And I'm so tired of people trying to force their LACK of religious beliefs on me! I've been told in the past that I HAD to work Sunday's regardless of my religious convictions; and if I didn't like it I could quit.

If you don't want to worship at church on Sunday, that's up to you. Don't penalize me because I do worship at church on Sunday.

God commanded that all are to rest on the 7th day. You sinners and harlots who ignore God's word will be stricken with great plague and famine.

What's the purpose of blue laws? Are we to believe that the government and its officials are so spiritual these days? They're all a bunch of crooks. It's just a facade.

Once again, the blue laws protect those of us who want to worship on Sundays, to do so. Employers now have no great respect, or admiration for people who don't want to work on Sundays. That's why Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sundays. S. Truett Cathy (the owner) believes that his employees should be able to glorify God and to worship on Sundays (not be made to work). Now, do you get it?

People don't go to church Monday - Saturday. Stay with us! We are honoring God's command: It is true, the Bible commands that we go to church. Hebrews 10:25 states, "let us...not forsake the gathering of ourselves together as is the manner of some." Jesus deem the church as important and speak often about building his church (Matthew 16:13-20)? Peter and Paul both attribute portions of Scripture to explaining the church (Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:4-10)? And are not the whole of the New Testament documents and New Testament letters written to the church? If Jesus comes to die for the church, and give His life to make and build the church, and care so deeply for it, certainly the church is important (Matthew 1:10; Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:25). Logic would say if God commands we go, then we should go!

God help you, if you still don't understand.

One of our county councilmen told me this has come up for a vote several times and been voted down. I wasn't living here then so I can't confirm or deny that. But now that we are much bigger....especially in Lexington and Irmo, I would love to see another vote!

My daughter works at Sonic. She goes to church Sunday morning and works Sunday afternoon. Most employers will work with you if you want to go to church. As for the shopping aspect, just because we go to church on Sunday morning instead of shopping doesn't give us the right to hold the entire county hostage until 1:30. If they are going to go to church, they will go whether or not stores are open. But for the ones who don't want to go to church or who worship on Saturday (as not all religions have services on Sunday), they have to wait until 1:30 to buy what they need because of when we worship. We wouldn't like it if the tables were turned and they closed stores on Saturday till 1:30 until after their services were over. One of my friends had a limb from his tree do damage to his house on Sunday morning. He couldn't go buy supplies to fix it until 1:30. So they had to rig a patch to keep the cold out of their house until 1:30. Blue laws are antiquated and should be abolished, in my opinion.
