Hmmm...the council released a statement that he was fired for cause. That's interesting, because an employer is not supposed to release confidential information of that nature.
So, I don't know what to make of this other than it's too bad it happened, especially since he was an Eagle Scout. That's not an easy thing to achieve.

The lad should man up (?) to his choices of dress and behavior and accept the result. Too many of today's kids think they can do whatever pleases them without being responsible for what comes of it.

It's clear in his photo that he's gay. Nail polish, the effeminate pose. He said he "came out" when he was 16. What exactly does that entail? That he told his coworkers and friends he was gay? Knowing the scouts have an anti-gay policy? Or that he began to behave like a girl in the presence of youngsters. He served as a role model, and perhaps his girlish behavior is what worried the officials.

'Lo, Barbie :)... The gay kid served in a position of leadership for younger scouts. It's good that the visiting officials' perspective came into play in relieving the boy of his job and membership in an organization that does not take young boys into the woods to paint their nails. LOL! Parents expect so much more from the Boy Scouts.

Now if only we could get officials like this to investigate our Solano County Board of Supervisors and ask why our past County Administrator, Michael Johnson, retired a year ago with a retirement package that pays him $371,043 a year. This gives Johnson $30,920 a month; $1,016.556 per day. This is scandalous. What's going on?

Good morning, Violet (are you the real Violet?). Nice to see a few posters are still sticking with the forum.
I haven't' been following the Michael Johnson Embarrassment much, but I do know many are outraged. There have been some letters to the editor I may copy and paste here for discussion.
But bottom line is Johnson has been the most highly paid employee for years - not just in county government, but of all public employees in every county including city government, school districts, etc. Why, he was even paid more than a jurist. For some reason, that raised my eyebrows more than anything because a jurist has to go to law school. Johnson sure didn't.
With his bloated salary and benefits package, that is, indeed, what he will enjoy for the rest of his life.
We can take hope that the makeup of the supervisory board has changed in recent years. No longer sitting on the dais are farmers and good ol' boys. At least, not that I know of, although it's too bad Reagan was voted out.

Sure, Barbie, I am the REAL Violet who was tormented by the old Max, who used to call me "Violet Blew." You and I discussed fashions and grooming on some occasions, which I appreciated because you are classy and know things.

As for Michael Johnson: According to Kelvin Wade's column in the Daily Republic on July 26, Johnson gets a higher annual retirement than any county supervisor in the whole State of California. He rakes in more money than our California Governor,($165,288 a year,) and when our U.S. President retires (LOL) he will get $199,700 a year.

I am outraged. I suppose when Johnson, who is only about 62 years old, dies... his wife will get his retirement, if she is still living.

Is there anything that can be done to change this rotten excess? How can such a thing be legal? It's like King Henry VIII at the dinner table.

Did this character Michael Johnson get kicked out of Scouts because he was gay?
Just trying to stay on topic.

What is the basis for your supposition? Do you know what annuity option Johnson chose?

When one retires with a Cal PERS pension, one can choose an individual life annuity or a joint & survivor annuity. The joint & survivor annuity has options at retirement: the ratio of survivor’s income to joint income, e.g 100% or 50%. The monthly payout under the joint & survivor annuity is lower than the individual life annuity to compensate for the expected longer payout. It’s equivalent mathematically.

He is still getting an outrageous pension either way.

I agree!
"Things began unraveling about three weeks ago, he said, when leaders of visiting troops made negative comments about him to his supervisors. At one point, the camp's project director and camp director were told by unnamed troop leaders that they didn't see Griffin as a fit role model for young boys and they worried that Griffin was a pedophile."

So since Leaders from out of the area came and saw the RULES THAT WERE NOT BEING FOLLOWED AND DECIDED TO FOLLOW THEM,the crybaby decides to contact the media and cry gay and that he was ousted? I don't agree. I think he was trying to be the exception to the rule, by not wearing his uniform, by wearing nail polish,by wearing an unauthorized earring etc. Lets throw out the gay card that he's trying to use, and just focus on the not wearing of the uniform, wearing nail polish, and the earring. In any other line of work or club that has rules and regulations, wouldn't someone who broke those rules be held to answer? The Boy Scouts have rules, and wear uniforms, just like the military, so why shouldn't they follow the rules?

"Griffin was devastated. And upon his July 20 firing, reportedly for violating the camp's uniform code (which fellow Scout leaders say no one fully followed for years), Griffin said he was told that "I don't represent Scouting's true values." He was then given one hour to vacate the premises."
If he represented the Scouts values, he would have been proud to WEAR THE UNIFORM AS A LEADER! Wearing the uniform or not, he was in the position of a leader, and the kids looked up to him as a role model. He was supposed to represent the Boy Scouts, not the Gays.No one said he couldn't be Gay,they just said that's not what he was to represent in his leader position. Him and everyone else there that didn't follow the uniform rules for years KNEW that they weren't following the rules, and just because time keeps passing without anyone saying anything doesn't mean the rules no longer apply.
FWIW, I don't believe for a second that he's a pedophile, but I do believe he wasn't acting appropriate, and he is trying to play the gay card. If he wasn't gay and he dressed Emo or Biker or HipHop,the problem would still be the same-he isn't wearing the uniform and correctly representing the Boy Scouts of America.

Why thank you :-) I have NOTHING against being gay,but I don't feel this case is about him being Gay.It's about him not following the rules and regulations, and wanting to blame it on being gay. Is the Gay Card the new Race Card?

I don't either. But I think you and I agree that we're only getting part of the story. Also, we're not talking about some guy who had an ordinary job. He was working with impressionable youngsters.

Gem and Barbie are very smart logical thinkers who would make good judges. Better yet, GREAT County Supervisors. The stodgy old male supervisors would all have strokes during the first discussion, with Barbie and Gem seated at the table with them. LOL!

We should all write letters of support to the Boy Scouts of America, for their stand in ousting the fairy-fingered, fancy boy from the BSA. I see him as a troublemaker who was stepping over the line more and MORE, a tiptoe at a time, to see how much he could get away with. Must have thrilled him to see himself in the newspaper. I bet he likes the publicity more than being a Boy Scout.

Hahaha!! Well, Gem? Shall we?
I was trying to be soooo careful, too, when I posted my feelings. It's nice to know others feel the way I do. Now, I'm wondering why this hasn't appeared on the LBGT (?I can't think of the acronym) forum or when we'll be hit...any second now.

One thing that really surprised me is a few of his buddies are giving up their Eagle badges as a show of solidarity? Huh. I wonder how many will actually do that. The Eagle scout rank is very difficult to achieve and a thing of great pride.

Thank you for the kind words Violet. That would be a funny scene, Barbi and I,at the table with those gentleman.I will write a letter to the Boy Scouts of America. No problem. People need to know when they have others support, and not just complaints.Wasn't it not too long ago that the Girl Scouts denied membership to a BOY who dresses as and considers himself a girl? They were right in doing so,IMO,so this case should be no different.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who feel the same as you Barbi.Whether they will admit or deny it is another story, and maybe they shouldn't have to admit or deny their feelings, just as this crybaby doesn't need to advertise his sexuality.
I found this comment when I was researching, and it made me laugh.
"Anyone know why the Gays insist on a public forum for something that should stay in the bedroom? Probably the same reason they hold those scary parades,,,,they want to impose upon people the sight of their perversions,,, there is some type of gratification they get by putting on a spectacle, why else?"
The scary parades part was funny to me.The acronym is LGBT.Lesbian,Gay,Bisexual,Tran sexual.Regarding the others giving up their Eagle badges. Are they also gay? That would be a reason they would support him.If not,I'd like to see if when push comes to shove, if they actually follow through and turn in their Eagle Scout rank. It's one thing to protest in their little "not following the rules to begin with group" but when it comes down to it and turning in something that took you years of life to accomplish, will they follow through? Will their parent's slap them upside the head and tell them to catch a clue, shut their mouths, and keep their badge?

He's supposed to be an influence on the younger scouts, and this statement from another article proves what an influence he was on everyone, not just the Scouts.

"Griffin said most people around Camp Winton have known for years that he is gay. It became an issue several weeks ago when an adult leader who had accompanied a group of Scouts to camp for the week pulled him aside to tell him he was being too gay, Griffin said.
He said he was proud of camp director Joel Adema, who stood up for him. But over the next few weeks Adema asked him to stop wearing the nail polish -- which he said started as a quirky tradition years ago.

More than HALF THE STAFF,MALE AND FEMALE,JOINED GRIFFIN IN WEARING NAIL POLISH, said Kayla Doria, who resigned her post as camp nature director after Griffin's dismissal.
"IT DEFINITELY WASN'T JUST HIM," she said.
So that proves my point and the BSA's point. What he was doing was a distraction and an unnecessary influence on staff and scouts alike.

Thank you, Gem for supporting my idea of writing a letter of appreciation to the Boy Scouts for dismissing the rule breaker gay boy who thought he had more rights than other scouts and could ditch his uniform and wear nail polish. It really DOES help to contact people at the TOP when you have something to say.

Recently my favorite crockpot shorted out when I plugged it in and a flash of fire came from the electric cord, right where the cord connects into the bottom of the crockpot. At first I thought to just toss it away, but then I got the model number off it and emailed the crockpot company. They sent me a new crockpot! I hope it does not explode. haha

Also, two weeks ago a representative of a big organization was rude to me and I contacted the president of the organization by email and told him about it. He is using the information from the rudeness incident in training sessions now, plus he brought the rude person to the home office and has now transferred him to another location. LOL

So yes, we should speak up when some whack-job happens and we know how wrong it is.

One hundred percent of problems will never be solved if nobody complains.

You and Barbi would be fab on a City Council or County Board. I would vote for you guyz.

This was a good call by the BSA. This fruit should not be in a position of teaching young boys values. I wonder what "new activities" he introduced at the camp.
