There are 1 comment on the Post-gazette.com story from Feb 11, 2013, titled Pittsburgh area lags in the very wealthy. In it, Post-gazette.com reports that:

If you don't know many people earning nearly $200,000 or more in annual income around Pittsburgh, there's a good reason for it other than the run-of-the-mill crowd you hang with -- relatively speaking, we don't have many high earners.

It's because the Progressive, union, Democratic mentality of the region makes the high earners feel uncomfortable. The Pittsburgh clearly does not encourage self made people as they have a tendency to think like Republicans and want to keep what they earn. The city of Pittsburgh is even worse, comfortable suburbanites are not welcome to use city services with the scorn of being accused of being free loaders and non tax payers.

When you make some money, the message is clear, move from the area. You are not welcome here.
