Wonder if this tax would end up like the gas tax, where the Governor can take it and spend it on his pet projects, other than roads? What about the lottery money, what is all that cash going towards?

If the tax does not pass, they are going to raise property taxes. I'd rater have the sales tax, I'm gonna vote YES.

I'd rather have NO new taxes. Let 'em vote the property tax ( they will anyway!)... then let's vote them OUT!

Without tax increases, how are they going to pay for much needed new schools? People without kids are not very sympathetic to the need for new schools, ever notice that?

Most likely this sale tax will go thru. They are pounding the education fist on the table on this one and the Gazette's articles aren't hurting it by their stories.
Then we'll get the new property tax in a year or two. Does anyone know how long this sales tax will be in affect if voted in? |

Weeeell, I'm noooot opposed to new schoools and goodness knows that the Opie's of the world need a good education, but what about us oooold folks? Why should our fixed income be garnished in the same way as those still working and making good money??? I certainly dooooon't see getting more SS money to compensate for the cost of living...

I thought there was a moratorium on the tax. Seriously,...glad you got a good laugh, but I thought I read something about state regulation on this kind of tax....Like I said "I thought". I thought it applied to any city or county additions to the state sales tax. |

1 I will decrease income taxes, decrease corporate taxes, increase local and state taxes in the form of property and sales taxes and most will realize the increases long after enactment. I like to call it my progressive tax program which distributes wealth into the hands of few. You see, the trollops are consumers who have to buy the same amount of goods as a rich man, who in turn does not pay interest or finance any purchase, in turn allowing a lower cost of living even in consumable purchasing. Large luxury tickets? Gimme a break, who actually buys those anymore, write-offs. The creeping of the Fair Tax Theory. Plain and simple, they are insidious in their strategies. |

crews - I didn't mean to be demeaning - I apologize for that. But, listen- do you really think once that have that money rolling in they are going to say - "Oh, we have enough now..."? Nope. And, the previous point was well taken- the legislature can divert those taxes and the county never see it - they've certainly done it before. That's one reason our schools are in the shape they are in - Easley diverted some of our sales taxes when we needed it to construct buildings. And the lottery? What a joke!

Not a biggie. The sales taxs have increased slowly over my life time, but, at times, sale taxes have adjusted or been repealed. I think what I have done is mistake a bond for a tax in something I read. I did go to the state web site and looked it up but found no regulations on time on the sales taxes. Local bonds do have time restraints. I like to play a number in the lottery weekly, but it is a joke. |
