It would be a good road if it WAS REALLY A BYPASS. I must say that I was appreciative of the residents from The Colonnades who came and spoke up for a public hearing at today's BOS meeting. They will be one of the goups MOST affected by the noise at all hours of the day and night and the pollution.

Can you imagine your elderly parents or grandparents getting no rest at night because of the sound of tractor/trailer traffic? How will that affect their overall health?

When I lived in Culpeper, I was about 2 miles from Rt 29N and could always hear the trucks shifting gears because of the incline/decline on that part of Rt 29N. I wonder how loud it will be at less than a mile from the terminus?

They typically can't hear a thing.

Tourism? pffft, just take that inventory of what land is left for development and cover it with businesses, homes, roads, parking lots and don't stop until it's done!

More roads more traffic more chain resturants and strip malls divert commercial activity from your city center until it decays re-allocate your most precious resource (land) so that it benefits short term growth. Stoopid. Charlottesville is doing its best to become another faceless town in the red ocean of homogeneity.

I am beginning to think Dennis Rooker's main purpose in politics is to keep the bypass from running through his back yard. It also appears to be why he is a charter member of the Piedmont Envionmental Council, the most outspoken group against the bypass. While I don't blame him personally for that, I wouldn't want it in my back yard either. It really makes me question whether he is in politics for himself or the rest of us. Get over it Dennis and move on! This is something we ALL need. And it might not hurt if you start being honest with the rest of us as to why you are so outspoken against it.

The concept is that government is to best serve the people who reside in the area. In contradiction, the Albemarle County government always seems to believe they are there to best serve the dirt upon which the houses sit rather than the people in the houses.

Everything they do drives people out of Albemarle County because they must escape the stifling restrictions and taxes. These people lose money and their lives degrade.

These restrictions and taxes are intended to increase the government's revenues, which they spend to attempt to draw people to the county--an absurdly counter-productive farce, but a sad burden for the residents who must flee to other localities.

The Government spends money to influence fly-by-night business to populate the roadside lands, and then outlaws signage for the businesses. The businesses fail and the government then increases taxes to cover the losses.

The government declares tracts of land to be protected, then increases taxes on non-protected land to makes up for the lost revenues.

The government causes real estate costs to go up, increases the taxes, and people then sell their houses at a loss in order to escape the madness.

It is like a poorly-written comedy about a third-world dictator gone insane, but nothing is funny and the is never a celebrant ending when the old looney is hauled away to a rubber room.

Unfortunately, there is no legal procedure to impeach the entire government and allow people with brains to have the freedom to improve lives rather than destroy them.
