They don't mind the cops when they need help, but the hell with them when they need a range that should have been built 15 years ago. That range will probably be used about 5 days a month. These people sent a junk flyer to my mailbox that had a picture of a baby on it saying they were going to fire 4,000 rounds a day every day. Waht a lie. Ridiculous!

Not true. Look at the website the police have set up - they will use the range quite often, and also plan on doing night trainings. There are also future plans for a hazmat center and burn building. It's going to be a mess and the county can't afford it. Not to mention what it may do to property values. There are LOTS of other options for police to train.

And where is the money coming from - millions of dollars, when schools and other services are being cut. Sure, if I was a cop I would want my own local, private range - it would be great. But it doesn't make sense in light of the cost, other things that need funding, and community concerns.

Why don't they build an indoor range right behind Albemarle County building! LOL

Typical NIMBY arguments.

NOT HERE!!!!

Just as typically, they say "SOMEWHERE ELSE!"

and just as typically, fail to suggest where else. Arkansas?

Typical NIMBY. Very un-creative. Go somewhere else and bother someone else, just don't bother ME ME MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

NIMBY's shut up unless you can recommend other sites and why they would be better. Sometimes you gotta take one for the team.

The Sandy Hook massacre reinforces why we need quality police training.

Good idea. But real shooting situations don't always happen in small climate controlled spaces.

Criminals don't stand still like paper targets, or make sure the lighting is just right and the temp is 72 deg with no wind or rain.

There are lots of existing places to train. A new state of the art facility with several gun ranges, a driving range, and other training facilities is being built right down the road in Nottaway. It would cost police almost nothing to train there (facility is paid for by athe state) and they could use the millions and millions of dollars they would save to hire lots more officers.

This is going to cost the county a ton of money and ruin people's way of life and property values. Of course they don't want it in their backyard- I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Every single possible alternative should be explored fully, and it's obvious this has not been done.

Please listen to yourselves... you want to ban guns and let the cops defend you, but won't let them train.

... you are concerned with decreased property values and hazardous waste when you bought land adjacent to a landfill. The reason you bought there in the first place was that the property values were already low due to the proximity to the landfill. You knew all of that going in.

I would bet that most of the people whining about this aren't even within earshot of the proposed range. We have a regional police firing range at the landfill in Augusta. I have never heard anyone complain.

They need a place to train for when they come to take all of your guns! These are obama's foot soldiers.

Put the range next to the downtown mall where the police can practice their skills right after they take their earplugs out.

Start with the movie theater, discovery museum and yogurt store where the convicted sex molesters leer at the small children.

Odummer's gun grabbers need to practice! They cause all of the accidents at the other ranges! These are frightened little boys who couldn't make it in the real world jobs!

Right down the road in Nottoway? Right down the road? Let's just say they could use it, you know, since it's right down the road. Then you will complain the the cops are off on training missions and not fighting crime in your backyard. Makes sense.

This sounds like a private club for the boys to hangout in...something they can't do now.

Depending on where you live Nottoway is a 1.5 to 2 hour drive. To use the facility in Nottoway is not free. It has to be rented by the department from the State Police.
I got the flyer full of lies in my mailbox too. What was on that flyer is not true! Augusta County did the same thing there with a range and really didn't have all this trouble. WHY? Because unlike Albemarle County they respect and understand their law enforcement needs to be properly trained. Their citizens are also not "too good" to understand that sometimes you have to "take one for the team." And yes I live close to the Keene landfill. I support the idea of better trained police in case I need them.

All this whining and crying is making me sick!! If this was proposed in Cismont you would support it and think it was great. Its the old, "not in my backyard" idea. BUILD IT!!

Thank you for pointing that out. If they ever need to police they should call down to Nottoway and ask for one to come help them. And 2 hours later when they arrive I hope everthing has calmed down. Oh but wait, they would then complain that it took them too long to get there. Albemarle County has 100,000 residents now, we need to have a well trained police department. Contrary to popular belief this is not Mayberry.

I don't think that even Albemarle cops are rambo enough or stupid enough to go door to door trying to confiscate firearms. God help 'em if they are.

And this little handfull of anti-range people need to get over themselves. The range has to go somewhere, they are the lucky recipients.

They can use Colonial Shooting academy in Richmond. They drive as fast as they want to anyway, so it is only about a 30-40 minute drive for them anyway. Why can't they build it at the dump???
