how do you decide which accidents to report and which to not? I heard about another accident this morning right near my house, and have yet to read one police report about it. If you're going to pick and choose, be fair some of the time!

Perhaps the difference between the MVA near your house and the one on 53 is the fact that 53 was closed as a result and the accident near your house didn't pose as much of a problem.

Having been a reporter (but not for NBC29), a lot of it is whether you hear about it on the scanner, how far away is it, are there any reporters available to go cover it, etc., and of course whether the accident is serious and if anyone's injured, and how badly it ties up traffic. I don't know what road you live on, but Route 53 is a major route for commuters coming in from Fluvanna and an accident there can prevent hundreds, maybe even thousands, from getting to work on time. Plus, 53 is known for being one of the area's more dangerous major roads, so anything that can appear to be adding to the trend is news.

I hate route 53 between Lake Monticello and route 20! There are so many accidents and yet most everyone continues to speed. On the rare occasions that I do use this road, if I observe the speed limit I end up with impatient tailgaters almost immediately. Come on, people. It's not worth your life or the life of someone else just to get somewhere a minute or two sooner.

I passed a fire truck turning onto to 22/231 this morning. A rescue squad was headed down 250 that way shortly after.
