Why are the police so up in arms about craigslist being used for prostitution? It's the "Oldest Profession" and has always found a way to operate. Now instead of going and making street busts they have the perfect way to sit in the comfort of their offices cyber-chat with hookers and then bust whole Prostitution rings, it's like shooting ducks in a barrel. If Craigslist were to really crackdown (not likely to work as crooks are always one step ahead) the trade goes back underground. As it is now It couldn't be much easier to catch the bad guys, and since they are soliciting you, I assume it gets the cops around entrapment. Call me cynical but I think the scapegoating of Craigslist is just a misguided to avert attention. The question is are they averting attention from the police not doing their job or the fact that there are so many prostitutes and people looking for their services?

So your wife is out of work for a while and your husband saids to you, instead of laying around doing nothing all day why don;t you just prostitute yourself and make some money while you are at it. What a great guy. Always looking out for you

I seriously have no idea how this can actually be controlled by Craigslist

Prostitution is illegal. Craigslist is committing crimes by allowing prostitution through their site. We don't need hookers around here in the Capital District. I applaud the police trying to get hookers off the streets and off the internets. They are doing a good thing. Craigslist is such a bad website I don't even go to it. You can't trust anything in there. Everything in craigslist is anonymous spam, it's just hilarious. Craigslist is a huge waste of time and you have issues if you spend many hours there, LOL!

Dude, What is your problem? This man was controlling his wife to prostitution. What is wrong with society saying this is ok for husbands to do this for their wives?

Since they got busted it would appear society is saying it isn't ok. Because someone committs murder, does that then mean society says it's ok?

Also, it there is no evidence that the woman wasn't doing this voluntarily. This was likely as much her idea's as his.

And Craig's list is GREAT! I've gotten much needed things, like wheelchairs for an invalid relative, for a very low price. Obviously though, they have to step up monitoring of ads to prevent this sort of thing.

Women's rights groups like to tell us that no one has the right to tell them (women)what to do with their bodies. ie abortion. So if a woman decides to have carefree sex with strangers and those people choose to give her money for it who are we to judge. She is just enjoying her right to choose. This country tried prohibition of alcohol and that failed. It is time to just legalize prostitution and tax it. What amazes me the most is that a woman can have sex with as many people as she wants as long as she doesn't charge them for the act.

If you are that hard up for sex that you have to pay for it so be it. In todays day and age you can get all you want for free. Why pay? Not to mention the majority of these prostitues are drug addicts. They have HIV and Hep C. So go for it. To me it is just gross. Never would I touch one of those skanky women. As for the man who allowed his wife to prostitute while he watched? He certainly is not playing with a full deck either.

This guy knows what he's talking about! You can have sex with anyone that is willing to do it for free, but paying for sex is illegal. If you pay for sex, you will get caught and go to jail. Prostitution is never cool.

I spend a bit of time HERE at TOPIX and I'd say maybe you (and I) have issues for spending so many hours HERE!!

Prostitution is illegal HERE (in NYS) but not worldwide. Keep in mind that www is the WORLD wide web, not "CL is Bad"'s Narrow(minded) Web. I am in no way defending prostitution in Albany, but pointing out that when you use global facilities, you must accept the mores of cultures and cultures other than your own ... or keep away.

Like another reader, I have bought, sold, bartered and given away a number of things on CL without incident, and yes, received some spam (b.f.d.) CL is merely an electronic bulletin board, not unlike one in any grocery store, campus or community center. Trying to force CL's operators to control what is posted is like making Verizon monitor and control telephone conversations. Keep away from technology if you cannot bear the pitfalls that come with its benefits.

The reason law enforcement is doing their best to get rid of craigslist erotic services and prostitution is like I said, it's all illegal, and craigslist allows illegal activity on their site. Hookers have been beaten, murdered, kidnapped, etc, you name it. It was mostly all because of craigslist. Jim Buckmaster, the craigslist CEO thinks he can hide behind freedom of speech and the 1st amendment. The crime rate through craigslist has gone high.

Not only prostitution but other major crimes there as well. I hope craigslist gets shut down for good one day. Good riddance if it does.

Erotic services and prostitution are not GLOBALLY illegal. Why be so thick? Craigslist is not on the "albany narrow(minded) web".

It's on the world wide web.

If you think local, regional or national laws should apply to everyone posting on the internet, then you better be careful in your own posting, and be especially careful of mentioning any one god. Some countries would haul you in for a beheading.

If YOU don't like CL, then don't go there ...

What you don't understand is that I know prostitution is legal in some states in the U.S. and other countries....but when people do that stuff that is illegal in your area, that gives them the right to take action against the owners that run craigslist.

You have a site that is full of criminal activity whatever it is: prostitution, murder, drug dealing, etc... all that stuff is going to bite back at the craigslists owners. That's exactly what's happening here.

You say I don't like craigslist and don't go there? You're right, I don't go there, but I have the right to speak about it and be honest.

If you want to sell and buy things, there are better ways than a pathetic website like craigslist. The "Want Ads" and E-bay is better and much safer. Yard sale shopping is a good idea too. Nobody needs craigslist anyways.

I agree that you have a right to express your opinion. Absolutely.

With the MILLIONS of postings on CL everyday, the small percentage of situations with murder etc are almost negligible ... it's people like you who don't even USE CL who get their undies in a bind and spend too much time reading the National Enquirer who make a big commotion.

Yes, there are other websites to buy or sell. Websites that CHARGE. Do you want to pay my fees on them? I just rented new office space found on CL. I got a good deal partially because the landlords' expenses were minimal.

Do you read the local newspapers? You can find personals in those too that are really fronts for crimes as well. "Employment" ads that are not really jobs. Wll you close them down too?

"Nobody needs craigslist anyways." you write. No one needs this forum either. Need has nothing to do with operating a business in a free society. If no one uses the site, it will die. Obviously, millions use CL and find it beneficial ... if YOU don't like it, fine.

Stick to your pathetic topix if that's what does it for you, but stop treading on my choices.

A kid down the street from me was struck by a car driven by a lawnsale gawker. Should we outlaw lawn sales and arrest the owners who promote the slaughter of young pedestrians and bicyclists. On weekend mornings the streets are FILLED with these violent motorists who seek only their own bargains at the expense of others' lives.

Doesn't that sound silly? Well, it also sounds much like your own arguments about CL. I refuse further comment.
