Are you going to go to the town meetings regarding the recent crime wave in Gettysburg? The police administration and public officials will be there. Why don't you show up and tell them they're out of their minds?

Are you banned from attending due to prior embarrassing incidents? Or do you just not give a f*#% about Gettysburg? You are a sickening person you are a sociopath actually.

According to you I and countless others here blow everything out of proportion and tell lies. So do two Police Chiefs and seasoned newspaper crime reporters.

If everything is so honky-dory in Gettysburg, why don't YOU volunteer to patrol these high crime areas at night to prove to the world that you know more than everyone? You'd last an hour or so longer than you should only because the gangsters would be busy laughing and calling their friends telling them about the easy mark strolling where he doesn't belong.

You are correct about nothing. Please read the articles you refer to.

Gettysburg Times, April 27th 2011 “The chief of the Cumberland Township Police Department warned officials and citizens this week that gang activity is on the rise in the municipality.”

Note, he says “gang activity is on the rise”, not that is it out of hand, or that it is a great problem, just that it is on the rise.

Hanover Evening Sun, August 14, 2012 “It can feel just like swatting flies, says Gettysburg Police Chief Joe Dougherty, describing efforts to reduce a recent string of crime in the Third Ward. One problem is squelched just in time for another to appear.”

In this article two incidents are mentioned, although I can remember three.

There is no indication in either of these articles that conditions are out of hand as you want to indicate.

You keep refereeing to people saying there is no crime in the area. Please refer me to that post. I don’t recall anyone saying there is NO crime in the area. To the contrary, I believe several people have indicated there is crime in this area, just as there is crime in any area. We have people living in this area, so there will be some crime.

But the crime in this area is not, I repeat not, the problem you are trying to make it out to be.

It has been suggested several times here that you check the crime statistics for this area, and compare them to were you may live. Have you done that? No you haven’t or you would find that despite the fact that we do have crime in the are, just like any other area, but it is still a very safe place to live compared to many other communities.

In all fairness, they are inundated and don't have the manpower to effectively deal with the crime epidemic. Perhaps a county-wide or regional task force ought to be formed to fight this problem. Members from municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies who can specialize in identifying, surveying and turning the heat up on these criminals. Track their stolen guns, study their tattoos and graffiti, monitor their communications et cetera.

The answer is because there are gangs operating out of Gettysburg. They are hard core criminals who will kill anyone who gets in their way. As proof, I offer the topic of this post, and the hiker who was set on fire, a crime which is STILL unsolved.

am often in Gettysburg quite often and have never, ever, had any problems at all. I believe there is a core element on this post who have it in for Gettysburg, those persons should remember that there are many, far worse places to be visiting. As far as gang violence is concerned, they should be identified and broken up so that they
pose no threat to any community.

And I also agree gangs that are causing problems should be broken up. But such a problem does not exist in Gettysburg.

As you have been ask before, if these gangs are such a problem, and out of control of the police, don’t you think the police would use this as a valid reason to ask for more money to combat the crime problem? This is a great excuse, since everyone is afraid of gangs getting out of control and the city fathers would surely flood the police with all the money they ask for. Yet I have not seen or heard of any such request.

May I ask in your visits to Gettysburg, have you seen any of this gang graffiti these individuals keep talking about?

Not sure what you mean by "I know the police had to investigate the fatal shooting in Gettysburg" What are you trying to say. Are you implying that the police pick and chose what crimes they will investigate?

Gettysburg is a wonderful town, and the problems are nothing like you are trying to project. A half a dozen crimes over as many years does not make a crime wave.

Take some time and check some reliable sources of crime information and you will find that Gettysburg is a very safe community.
