Taxing hotel rooms, now...Gettysburg and every major tourist town will NOT see the numbers of visitors as in previous years, I bet...DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF GAS...Folks cannot afford even the price now..WHAT IS IS--like "four bucks a gallon"? They will be budgeting to the penny if they do visit. Place a tax on hotel rooms, they may take full advantage of it. Order pizza in, buy deli items or go to fast food restaurants for their dollar menus. No dining out at themed restaurants, no trinket buying or visiting ANY business that requires an admission fee. May look good on paper, but in reality the hotel tax will hamper profit. ROCK ON!

Chick, we have had a “pillow tax” in this area for quite a few years now. This bill will take it from 3% to 5%. But there are some largely tourism communities that have the same tax, but by a different name of up to 15%.
My problem with it is that most of it goes to promoting tourism, rather than to the local community to help offset some of the cost to the local governments.

But, by prmoting the tourism your bring business to your town. Isn't that what you want?
