In response to the position of state Sen. Alloway and state Rep. I have read all of your responses as well as this letter and the other responses and I agree with you to a point. I agree that it is possible to live on $9 or $10 an hour if you have to. I agree that there are many programs out there to help you if you need it but there are some points that I can't agree with you. Unions are not as needed now as they were years ago but without them you wouldn't have what you have in income and benifits. You aparently make a good wage now for the work that you do - thank unions because the place you work is afraid that if they don't give you that wage you will leave for another job perhaps a union job. It sounds like you now have some good benifits - thank a union because again you might leave your job for one that has benifits. You are safer at work because unions pushed for laws to protect your health and life at work. Some unions are overboard with their demands for sure but they do have a purpose and without them we would still have kids working in sweat shops and $1 a day jobs. I have worked both union and non union and there are benifits to both but I would not have made the wage I made at the non union business (just slightly less than union) if they had not thought I could do a lot better someplace else working union.
