For as many stories as we wrote about construction-driven traffic tie-ups in Gettysburg last year, we never did find a single person who said they liked the multitude of closed streets and detours.

WHO IN THEIR FREAKIN' right mind would say that they LOVED all the detours and streets closed??? No one wants to leave early or find an alternate route to their workplace or to go shopping. Can't even believe this was posted...by the way...got a recipe for apple butter?

Chick, in the past three years, I have had to work my way through two major bridge construction projects in my area. One affected me going south (about half my travels require this). It added about ten minutes to any tip south for me, no matter what my destination was. The other affected me traveling into Gettysburg, doubling my travel distance, and almost tripling my travel time, because it was on country roads.

Both were a big inconvenience for me, but each was for less than a year, and both bridges are now wider, and much safer, so the minor problems it cause me made things safer for everyone. And once I determined the best route, everything was easy.

The biggest construction problem in Gettysburg this year was the West Middle Street project. On this project things changed every day. You would go to work one day and cross at one location, but when you returned home that evening you had to cross at another location.

BUT IT IS OVER. The road surface is better so things are better.

Everyone wants things to be better, but nobody wants to put up with the inconvenience of being put out of their way while these improvements are done.
