And this is different from the phishers targeting me (on my Mac) under the guise of Wells Fargo, Bank Of America, eBay, PayPal, Citibank, Nation's Bank, First Union Bank, and so on in exactly what way?

As technology becomes more secure, malicious folks will target the ultimate weak point - people - more and more. The fact that this particular scam says iTunes instead of Amazon is a detail at best. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. I for one use the iTunes store on both Macs and my (Boot Camp/Fusion) Windows Vista PC's.
