I understood the bay to be the part in the tower.
Not the enclossure the hd would be in.

Reality is if I have to buy a regular
'Personal Media Drive' with a HD already, its a waste of $$ for me.

I would rather have a 'empty' that I can use for several large hd's .

What I would like is a way of using this bay for more than just a a HD .??

Are there any products or possibilities out there..

Willard and others: you can but 'empty' bays for the HP Personal Media drive on eBay. I just bounght a bunch of empty enclosures that used to hold the 160GB drive (this is the one using the PATA = IDE drive connection). I successfully inserted a MTD (rebranded maxtor) drive in there. There is nothing special about the form factor, Willard. No idea why you say that. It takes a standard PATA 3.5" drive. If you want to be sure of compatibility the use a Seagate PATA 160GB or get a 34$ MTD.
The fan seems to have gone out on my 160 HP PMD (hd1600) and it keeps shutting down, due to heat. Do you know the ebay seller's id, whom you acquired these enclosures from? If not, are you willing to part with one?

Neil,
The HP Personal Media drive, what are it's symptoms? Have you opened it up? Are you sure it's the hard drive that is bad or the circuit board inside. Do both lights, come on, or just the blue one?

After reviewing the posts spanning 18 months and seeing no resolution, it would seem we all need to use a generic external docking device. Thanks for posting this information - it has convinced me to go with external network docking as this will be more expandable. I couldn't get this much out of HP who seem to be going the way of GM and Chrysler...

Has anyone figured out how to open one of these PMDs up? I would like to use it with a larger HD if the case can be opened. There's no screws or anything even under the feet.?

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion Media Center TV PC. I was wondering if I can purchase the media drive bay by it self. I want to add my own hard drive. I don't want to but the whole HP 500GB Personal Media Drive:

Can I just buy the enclosure or adapter to add my own HDD?
Here is where I found just the cage itself-hope this helps:http://www.mpdpart.com/p roduct.php?productid=108720

I picked one up off the street that someone disposed of, I only now find out the HDD standard OS bearing disk rides piggyback mounted to the Personal Media bay, it's all ONE metal caddy that slides in and out basically, there is a loose power/USB plug for the PMD, and a loose interconnect to the normal PCI radio tuner capture card, I see those on eBay, but not the other at a good price, I see a few asking $30 or $40 for a metal tray to mount the HDD to, that's what I need, and it's simply over priced

The HP Media Center PC itself coincides with Windows Media Center Edition, circa 2005, Now, in 2011, the same idea is just using an external cased HDD, which is what I think the Personal Media Device is, more or less

Hey there I have a HP Pavilion m9365 and I am trying to get the personal media drive to work but it doesn't show up in my computer or it hasn't even downloaded any kind of hardware, I have no discs with it unfortunately, so does anybody know where I can download the drivers for it? I am putting it right into the media drive bay

I need to get some sort of support for my HP printer. I have been looking to troubleshoot a couple of problems. I haven't ever used any sort of products from this company before so it has been hard to figure them out. http://www.virtualtechnology.com/our-services...
