In fact, if i cant buy 'empty's I will proabbly see what I can do to remove this as it is useless otherwise.

I understood the bay to be the part in the tower.
Not the enclossure the hd would be in.

Reality is if I have to buy a regular
'Personal Media Drive' with a HD already, its a waste of $$ for me.

I would rather have a 'empty' that I can use for several large hd's .

What I would like is a way of using this bay for more than just a a HD .??

Are there any products or possibilities out there..

Willard and others: you can but 'empty' bays for the HP Personal Media drive on eBay. I just bounght a bunch of empty enclosures that used to hold the 160GB drive (this is the one using the PATA = IDE drive connection). I successfully inserted a MTD (rebranded maxtor) drive in there. There is nothing special about the form factor, Willard. No idea why you say that. It takes a standard PATA 3.5" drive. If you want to be sure of compatibility the use a Seagate PATA 160GB or get a 34$ MTD.
The fan seems to have gone out on my 160 HP PMD (hd1600) and it keeps shutting down, due to heat. Do you know the ebay seller's id, whom you acquired these enclosures from? If not, are you willing to part with one?
