I have the same problem, and I'm no geek. But I have uninstalled and installed, all to no effect!
Are the geeks out there, aware of any problems HP photosmart 2575 have?
As I have already spent 80 eur, on having it fixed, and it still will not scan? But it does copy and print without any prroblems!!
Also the HP panel comes up black, so does that mean it has a internal problem???
Anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated, as I do not want throw it away.

Same here. I'm running Windows 7 and it seems that drivers are faulty and can't recognize a scanner.

Here is my SOLUTION:
1) Disconnect USB cord (printer to pc)
2) Turn on your HP device
3) Insert either a supported memory card or a USB memory stick into your printer
4) Scan your document to inserted memory stick/card using printer controls ("Scan to..." or "Scan" buttons on your printer)

Of course, you will not be able to set any preferred scanning options (it will always scan your document to a .jpg format file), but that seems to be the best solution.
Hope that helped

I had this problem also and came to find out that in order to scan, you have to go into your "ACCESSORIES", then "PAINT" and go to "FILE" and scroll down to "FROM SCANNER OR PRINTER" and then follow the instructions. It works!

Note: Once you have scanned and saved the first item (saving it as a JPEG is best), you can press the "Start Scan" button on your printer/scanner/copier. It will come up with a list of where to send scans to (your computer, e-mail, Paint program, etc). Choose from the list, then press OK. It will scan the item you have on the scanner bed. When it's done,a box will pop up on your screen with the options SCAN or DONE. If you have another item to scan, load the item on the scanner glass, then click SCAN. When it's done scanning, the box will pop up again. This is great if you have multiple items to scan. I usually do about 10 in a row, then click DONE and go save the files that have popped up. Just so I don't bog down my computer with too many open Paint files. And because it's better safe than sorry to save every ten pages than to lose a bunch of scans if there's a malfunction. Hope this helps!

Surprise, same problem with my new HP Photsmart Plus b210-a all-in-one printer. I have downloaded and redownloaded new software from HP but it simply doesn't work. I can run the unit on either my wireless or usb. On the wireless, the printer works and the scanner used to, but then quit.
Same with the usb. This is B.S. it's not supposed to work like this. I spent 2 hours on the phone the other day and it still didn't fix it. I spent enough money on this unti to demand it works the way it is SUPPOSED to, not make me to workarounds.

I GET THE SAME MESSAGE. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO FIND ANSWERS..... THIS SEEMS LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT PROBLEMS..... I AM A NOVICE AT THIS COMPUTER STUFF, BEING OLD SCHOOL I SIMPLY WANT TO BE POINTED IN THE DIRECTION OF "ANSWERS" LATER

I figured out a short term solution to the problem of not being able to scan with Snow Leopard- scan to a memory stick and use the stick to migrate the document from the printer to the Mac.

Just found these entries! Does not seem as if anyone has found a solution! Is there one?
In brief...have Photosmart 2575 all-in-one. Update to cure communication problem between PC and printer failed to load many times("DOT4...." message(window) locked on screen. It was regularly offered automatically with our settings. It upset all the HP extras. Attempts to uninstall and re-install from CD,which came with the printer, and using the other system routes failed to work. Now it is impossible to uninstall the printer or any of the extras which don't open anyway, to clear them out. After 5 attempts to download the software & driver package, which all failed to work, I tried to locate and acquire the CD on offer but the operator fobbed me off with the automated system when she failed to identify/find the correct CD! Printer works fine but no scan operational from printer controls. I found a shortcut to the printer which enables me to access the scanner from the keyboard - put shortcut on desktop. Can't remember where that came from!
So, HP overload at the moment from hours on their site and fiddling with our system(Windows XP) May cut my losses and put down for an Epsom on my Christmas wish list!

A friend suggested that I use Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome to download the package from HP. Bingo! It arrived intact for the first time and opened but I have yet to get it to behave itself fully - too much to expect! The scan buttons on the printer now respond but it cannot find a destination for the scans. I was told by a guy in Staples today that our system is out of date and we shall continue to experience problems......perhaps until we tire of it and I-pads become cost effective when the next generation take over and the current ones are affordable! Somewhere out there is an efficient solution for those of us who are not prepared to keep up with the latest money draining technology!

Ok, so I have finally found a solution to this problem, at least in my instance. WINDOWS 7

Problem: HP Photosmart 2575 scanner does not work after installation of full HP suite, other features do work.

Solution: Windows 7, will probably work with vista also

You are going to need the following
1. The latest HP suite from the official website
2. A network cable
3. Vuescan (free version, just google)

Ok, so first of all, if you have the HP suite installed let get back to square one, run it and uninstall everything. Restart.

Now we are back to square one.
-get rid of the usb connection to your pc, grab your network cable and plug one end into the printer and the other into your PC (or router should also work the same, but this guide is written with a direct connection for reference)

-Go to your printer and hit the setup button then scroll to network>view network settings>display wired summery and take note of the Address (i.e. "xx.xx.xx.xx")

-We are going to totally circumvent the HP software, considering it has got us no-where so far. Go to the start menu and type in "devices and printers" hit enter.

-Hit "add a pinter" at the top left of the window

-hit "and a network or bluetooth printer" and stop it searching

-hit "the printer I want isnt listed"

-click add by tcp/ip

-change the device type to "tcp/ip device"

-enter the address you wrote down from earlier

-Make sure "query the printer and auto select driver" is UNSELECTED

-you should no have a list of drivers, find the "photosmart 2570 series" in the list and install the driver with the newest date, although any driver named "photosmart 2570 series" should work

-Name it whatever you like, I suggest "eureka"

-dont share it

-finsih.

ok now we have a printer, but no scanner. Getting the scanner to work could not be simpler.

-Now we just install the Vuescan software, once it is installed open up the program and scan away. Vuescan will find the printer on the network and do the rest for you.

I really hope this helps someone, as its taken me close to 6 hours to botch together this solution. Good luck.

Hello
I got HP Photosmart 2575 All in One and I am having some difficulties with the scanner. The problem is that it seems like the scanner in the printed is not detected. Funny thing is that I can us ethe copy option which scans the documents and prints it but "Scan to" option is not avaible anymore. If I go to my HP Digital Image Monitoring software and click on either "Scan image" or "scan document" I get this error window : "An error occured communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again.". Yes it is connected properly, witha proper USB cable in a proper USB port 2.0. I can print files properly. So the printer works. The other thing I noticed was an Network Icon "wired network - no connect" which wasnt there before. I dont know if this has sommething to do with the scanner problem but anyway.
Scanner worked before now it doesnt. I went to restore factory defaults but still nothing. I even reinstalled all HP drivers and software and installed it gain.
This is my Second printed from HP, first one broke which was a previous model. Now this one seems to be breaking.... I am not a type who breaks thing I take care of my equipment with most care possible, I dont like things breaking and getting them back to store.
I would really love to get this problem fixed soon as possible and any help would be usefull.
Thank you
Milosz
Hello
I have similar problem, not only with scanner but printer as well. I have reinstalled drivers for the third time. Each time the scanner and printer works for a few days then 'puff' error message. I have been to the shop where I bought the printer-scanner and was asked to bring the hard drive tower as well as the printer for repair (not free). I was reluctant to pay as I felt the shop was extorting money from vulnerable customers. I managed to reinstall the driver and it worked for a few days and now it is showing the error dialogue again.
Could anyone help?
Thank you
PD
