Hi, I purchased an Pavilion zd8000 about a year ago and all i have had is problems....the battery doesn't last....but the worst is that fact it can get so hot it actually burns my hand. i relized afterwards you cannot put 3Ghz cpu into something at out has 3 small fans. People say when i can get a program that will tell me the cpu temperature. are there regulations to hot hot a cpu runs on a notebook before it becomes a safety issue? because if it is i've been told its worth a shot at a class action lawsuit, because hp wants me to pay another 500 to get it "fixed" even though i already paid 3000 and everything is fine when it comes to functioning, does anyone know how a forum or anyone else who has this issue? Thank you

I also have this same laptop, my screen has lines all over it and I can't get rid of them, any ideas?
It is only 1 1/2years old and course out of warranty now.Paid $2,000.00

I would not pay a nickel for my motherboard through Staples.
Who do we contact for a class action lawsuit?
My ZD is a year and a half and I brought it to Staples as recommended by HP. Cost for Motherboard would be $369.
Called HP this morning and thought I got the message across to someone and they came back with $700 for motherboard, then $398 and I said Class Action suit.

As I've gone out on the web in search of information relative to my "crashed" motherboard problem . I get more and more infuriated with the pervasive evidence of reliability problem. It would appear that mean time between failure is approximately 12 to 18 months-just as the warranty expires.

I have owned computers since 1983 and rarely have I had a problem. One might argue that the ZD because of process speed runs hot. But ours was set to hibernate after 10 minutes and it was rarely used more than hour at a time.

Customer service was as unknowledgeable as it was sympathetic. In a single phone call they gave my wife three different prices for the identical motherboard repair. Just adds to the credibility of the whole issue.

The voice of the customer seems to be unheard at HP.

What next??

I have a ZD 8000, it just toasted the 3rd motherboard in just over 2 years..
The first fried at just over 1 yr.. They said they were sorry but nothing they could do.. After about 3 supervisors I got it for the $398.00..
They gave me a 90 day warranty on that motherboard and it has gone out 6 months past the warranty..In addition the battery fried at just over the warranty mark also.. They did replace it and it lasted 6 months..
I was very leery about buying HP but read all the reviews when it came out and they were ranking it # 1 at the time I purchased it..I just got a call from my local repair shop and HP gave him 2-3 prices for a mother board.. at the least it will cost me $550 plus tax.. Never again will I buy anything with HP on it..
Class action suit is what I'm looking for too..
NOW ALL I AM LOOKING AT IS DELL....
The repairman just told me if this had happened to a Dell they would make it good.. He doesn't have to tell me Dell makes a great product, have a 7yr old Dell desk top, never been worked on..

I also have problem with my HP zd8000 laptop. I let it charge until battery reachs 100%, then I unplug it from adapter and it works for about 5 minutes then it goes into standby and when I try to wake it up it says battery is empty and battery meter shows 0 percents. But computer is still working normally so I start 3d mark and activate looping test. Then my computer works for about 30 minutes and battery stays on 0 percents all the time! Finally after thirty minutes it finally shuts down. Its obvious that battery is quite good but windows battery meter is making mistake reporting empty battery. Please tell me what to do. Is there some other software which will be able to give me more reliable informations about battery status or can this problem be motherboard related?

My screen is 1/3 black now, how did you fix it? And is there any recorded problems such as this from HP?

I have a zd8000... Found a good use fir it! Makes a good fire starter or wheel chock. It is the biggest heap of computing shit ever presented to the masses. Run it as a desk top.... piss the battery off and rip it open and give it a clean out and it should run OK.... If it overheats, throw it in the freezer or pour glyocol into it! Never, NEVER will I have anything to do with the retards at HP or their crap products.....

Other than the lines in the screen, I've had ALL of the same problems with HP and their service as listed above. Therefore, if there is a class action suit for the zd8000, please also e-mail me, Macey, at horrorfied@earthlink.net.

jesus, I've had most of these problems too besides the vertical lines. I had to get my system board replaced last year and now, 5 months after my 2 year warranty just went up... i think my graphics card died, because the screen is just locked up and doesnt refresh its image, its just all choppy.

Im scared to death to even call customer support because of how bad it was last time I called.

But Ive had the battery issue, loud fans, and overheating problem since i bought this computer.

I paid $1600.
