But I don't quite get it - are horses cheaper than steer? Is there financial gain to use horse meat over bovine meat? Pound per pound, I would think that a steer would produce more meat as well.

Um, honest question here: what's wrong with eating horse?

We eat all sorts of other animals. Why do horses get a bye?

Lol!!!

What's the difference between an old Canadian catcher's mitt and a horse?

It's actually fun to ride a horse.

For the same reason we don't eat dog.

We don't eat man and we don't eat mans best
friends.
Horses and dogs are the only animals that
have teamed up w/man for the betterment of
both species.
W/o dogs and horses the human race would not
be the "dominate" animal on earth.

They have protected us, helped us hunt, travel,
haul supplies, herd our animals, farm our crops,
transport food and medications.
Their help has been invaluable in our development.

We should treat them accordingly.

I'm not saying I'm a horse eating advocate - I just find it odd.

We and other cultures use cattle for all sorts of purposes and yet have no qualms about eating them. At some level, meat is meat.

I agree w/that.

I really don't understand why it's such
a big deal in Europe. Considering horse
meat is accepted there. At least it is
in most European countries.

I think America has an aversion to it b/c
we see horses differently. I imagine it goes
back to the "cowboy" days.

Personally I don't like horses being slaughtered
for any reason. To me eating horse is akin to
eating dog and cat.
