Frank Xerox is having money problems. She will put it into bankruptcy. Say poof to Xerox. This woman is in this position because of race and her sex. Nothing else. How many great potential leaders were given the shaft for this looser and now we will see the end of Xerox as we know it.

Are you saying that all minorities can't get ahead in life without the white mans special privilege card?

Are you playing the dreaded race card?

What I don't understand is when blacks are doing wrong you sling garbage our way, but when we are moving up in the world, you tend to sling even more garbage our way. You can't have it both ways men.

Why did I order my hiring managers to hire under-qualified and outright unqualified minorities and women, because it made my defective liberal mind "feel good?"
This is what was said! Give me the pda file link!

I will admit to being wrong, as long as I can see the document.

O, never mind.......Seems to me like Xerox is open to all people. I see they like Women, Minorites, Muslims, and the L.G.B.T community as well.

Here is the link to a description of the article at the Harvard Business Review web site:

Unfortunately, they want you to pay a fee to see the full text, but I believe the Rundel Library carries back issues. Copy the issue date and take it to Rundel.

I was first given Wilson's 1968 memo in a "Managing Diversity" graduate class at RIT. The professor handed out copies of the above article (which contained the memo) in class.

I can't believe all the negative feedback on this. Give the woman a chance, she has the qualifications for this position. I cannot tell if you all are annoyed because she is black or female. I mean, how has the "usual white male CEO" been working out for these corporations? Her qualifications are below - very impressive.

Ursula M. Burns is chief executive officer of Xerox Corporation. In May 2009, the Xerox Board of Directors named Burns chief executive officer, effective July 1, succeeding Anne Mulcahy who is retiring from the CEO role. Burns is also a member of the Xerox Board of Directors, elected in April 2007.

Burns joined Xerox in 1980 as a mechanical engineering summer intern and later assumed roles in product development and planning. From 1992 through 2000, Burns led several business teams including the office color and fax business and office network printing business. In 2000, she was named senior vice president, Corporate Strategic Services, heading up manufacturing and supply chain operations. She then took on the broader role of leading Xerox's global research as well as product development, marketing and delivery. In April 2007, Burns was named president of Xerox, expanding her leadership to also include the company's IT organization, corporate strategy, human resources, corporate marketing and global accounts.

Burns earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of NYU and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University. She serves on professional and community boards, including American Express Corp., CASA -(The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse) at Columbia University, FIRST -(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), National Academy Foundation, MIT, the U.S. Olympic Committee and the University of Rochester.

Why do so many have a problem judging a person by her skills, credentials, knowledge and actions? Burns is a smart person who has proven that she can run the company. She has held many positions with Xerox over her nearly 30 years of employment.

Those who think she got where she is because she is female or because she is black should look in the mirror. Did all the white males get where they are due to their skills and knowledge? I bet a few are where they are to keep the women and minorities down.

Burns will be fine...can't say that for a lot of you who will soon be downsized in this faltering economy....and who will hire you when you ask them for a job without skills, knowledge or the ability to work in a diversified workforce?

That memo tells the story
Grade inflation in college - faculty unwilling to fail women and minorities if warranted-

Joseph C. Wilson ordering managers to hire under-qualified and UNQUALIFIED minorities.

I didn't say it - CEO Joseph C. Wilson ordered it!!!

You did not mention the other statements he made, not only hire unqualified minorities, but TRAIN them..There were plenty of caucasians getting trained, so why not train minorities, as well. Due to economic situations in that era, training was key to the employment of minorities. And if you deny anyone training, you are guilty of discrimination....and we know what those people are called! Did the employment of minorities personally hurt your economic situation, or do you just randomly discriminate based on color or gender?

What about people ALREADY TRAINED & EDUCATED- should they get passed over in favor of the ignorant? Xerox thinks so...

And if they happen to be white and educated, even if they're the first in their families to go to college- well, then get out of the way anyway.

The only whites who get in under this system are the wealthy and well-connected. Everyone else can make up for make up for the sins of the wealthy and well-connected - that's their Ponzi scheme.

Burns is a rabble-rouser who in the early 1980s browbeat Xerox VP Wayland Hicks into putting her on the management fast track after she disrupted a meeting that Hicks was conducting.
Coincidentally, Burns took exception to a question asked by a "white male" regarding the poor quality of many of XEROX's affirmative action hires.

Burns went ballistic, and took on Hicks in front of the crowd. Acting like a true Xerox white male Judas goat, Hicks caved in to Burns and put her on the "fast track".

Thanks Wayland!
