This is particularly troublesome considering that Wyeth has recently experienced a slew of legal action and dissolved its partnership with Pfizer. Is it merely looking to open another market? If so, are we looking at more Neo-Colonialism than Market- based economy.

Is Wyeth aware that the population in China it intends to serve has a significantly different physiological reaction to many of the chemicals and additives used in manufacturing these products? Populations throughout the world have different needs and considerations. More often than not, they are overlooked or disregarded by corporations. This is in part the tragedy of globalization. Perhaps, we as a global community must hold Wyeth accountable for its mission statement. The lawsuits will not end with its plant in China but may in fact increase. Within the last few years, Chinese have begun initiating lawsuits against Pharma for adverse reactions to vaccines and the like.

In a country where antibiotics are responsible for one third of all deafness in children, disparities become evident as do the rights of patients and the greater need for increased transparency and accountability in manufacturing.

As a researcher and practitioner, I can only share what I know. For more information on Wyeth check out
